I would have been about twelve ,and it came as quite a shock .
My step father sent me to a Private boys school in Kent in the early seventies .Not a particularly posh one and not that large . I was a day boy there till I left at age sixteen . But though good academicly they did have a policy on corporal punishment . Though my step dad was not allowed to discipline me as he did his own boys he had no objection to the schools arrangement on this . Neither did my mother who would have had to agree to the school rules on this matter .
It was during my first few weeks of starting there .
My Housemaster sent for me . I had been reminded of the need for more effort in PE so it was felt a reminder would focus my attention to this .
Another master was in the room ,so embarassing .
