The majority of mine were pants down, but over my underwear, which as a kid were white briefs. The bare bottom spankings were reserved for only the biggest punishments. Very rarely did I get one for a single thing unless it was very serious and I did something dangerous. It was usually as a follow up if I kept misbehaving repeatedly. Whenever my mom was pulling my pants down I was always utterly terrified in the moment of not knowing if the next step was to pull me over her knee, or to reach back up and pull my briefs down. It was firstly the humiliation of being exposed that I dreaded, but it seemed like it made the spanking 100 times worse somehow, I doubt the thin cotton provided any real protection so it was probably just in my head. It also was used as a threat. It was one thing to hear, “if you don’t behave, I’m going to give you a spanking.
