A teacher I was an aide for when I high school was very open to any questions I had (at the time I was very interested in teaching) She even showed me the guidelines they had to follow for discipline and the use of corporal punishment. Nearly every offense could be punished by "spanking". Some would give an alternative such as holding after class, keeping after school or witholding recess, etc... But each one of them gave spanking as a choice. As far as how the spanking could be administered. It could be done by hand or with a paddle either in front of the class or the student could be taken out of the class. Which in that case another teacher of faculty member was required to witness. The number of swats was pretty much limited to no more than 10. As far as the student's state of dress (or undress), that was not mentioned. So I point blank asked the teacher if she was allowed to paddle the student's bare bottom and even mentioned the fact that I got a bare bottom spanking from a teacher when I was in fifth grade. She replied, I have done it on a couple of occasions and we have no rule against it, but I prefer not to do it that way unless it's with a student who habitually breaks the rules and a regular paddling hasn't solved the problem. When you were a student what was your impression of the attitude of your friends and other students about the discipline you received at school particularly with respect to parents finding out say you had been punished for something? Mainly of course because of the embarassment. Also, the fact at eleven years old, I had a serious crush on that teacher. So there were some confusing feelings as well. As far as the rule, "get in trouble at school, you get in trouble at home." goes. All of my friends got spanked (in fact most of the kids I knew did), and most of them like me got it bare bottom. In the case of my friends, Our parents were friends, so we were all aware of each other's spankings even if we didn't see them. In many cases, their parents applied that same rule, so it wasn't much of a surprise. I did have some friends (male and female) were we did discuss the spankings we got, sometimes if one of us got a spanking that day, that child would show their "war wounds". Also we played games which involved spanking. Of course you did have a few kids who weren't part of the clique that you belonged to, particularly those who had the tendency to be brats who would tease when they saw or heard you got a spanking. But they were more the exception than the rule. In the case where a classroom spanking happened, or in the lockerroom and the child got spanked bare, you would hear about all over school.
