My grandmother also used one on my bare butt a few times. The swatter was on of the rubber kind with a metal handle. Mom only used the rubber mesh part and put a little snap into her wrist when she spanked with it. It didn't cause and serious damage, but could make your bare butt heat up pretty quickly. Over a clothed bottom I can see that it would not be very effective, but on bare skin... I had some friends who also got the flyswatter. In fact one of them told me when she and her sister got spankings (which they also got bare) depending on how bad they had misbehaved, sometimes their mom would use the handle instead of the striking surface on them. However, it was long-standing permission given when you first met one another. When a new family came onto our block, mom made a point to introduce all of us, and other families would do the same.
