In reply to: sounds worse than a job interview 's message, "Can someone who has taken the exam before please explain how the "interview" goes?" on 20:53:28 06/15/10 Tue

IMHO. Way worse than any interview I've ever had because in some ways it seems that the panel can try to mess you up. For the one I sat, you sit at a table and the panel is at their table across the room from you. (intimidating in the set up alone). It's sort of like interrogation style. You get your marks that you gave about 30 minutes before you go in so you can familiarize yourself with what you did and refresh your memory. This is done with a proctor so that you don't change any marks.
Then they just ask you what you marked the first 4 dancers for a particular dance. You read through you scores and they may ask you your comments etc. You tell them that and then they ask for clarification or why you placed so and so there, why you chose the marks you did, what made one get first and the other last etc. That is all fine. The only thing I will tell you is to write your comments VERY carefully as they can be used against you. I had written down a comment to help me remember the dancer in a competition and since I used the same comment a few times, they used this against me as saying it was "VERY IMPORTANT" to me, when it really was a minor thing. So, be careful with that. It all depends on the panel too. Some are just seeing if you can justify your marks. Others (and sometimes within the panel) are looking to rattle you and you can't win either way. For example, when asked a question, I answered about one dance and what I thought was important. They countered with "So you are saying it's not important in the other dance?" Things like that that make your ming go boggy. But just take a deep breath and answer calmly. I'm a little bitter (if you can't tell) about the interview because truly I think it's what I performed best in. Even the comments they gave me didn't justify not passing. But it's their will and so it goes. I figure I'll give it one more shot and see how it goes. Then I'm done either way. But for your sake, just speak up, be confident and make sure your comments are not just for your memory but will be evaluated.
