Subject: So what you're saying is there's no middle ground between "mediocre (or even no) scholastic ambitions" and a PhD from Duke? Well, thanks for the clarification. What a relief for the people who actually care about the program to know that they don't have to worry so much about it! It takes a lot of pressure off those people to know we're really just looking for "mediocre." We can start recruiting even more mediocre girls who "desire" to return to a mediocre life. In fact, we might want to consider giving out participation crowns in the future because every girl who "desires" to compete deserves to get what she wants. I mean, it's just a pageant after all. Thanks! That's going to save some people a lot of time, money and effort.

In reply to: 's message, "Since you are so forthright in your criticism of Crystal's academics, what's your academic background? I assume that you must have a PHD in physics from Duke University or something equivalent, correct? If you are going to be so insistent and steadfast that girls with mediocre scholastic ambitions not compete in MAO, you obviously have to be someone who's a shining example. Please do tell. Enquiring minds want to know." on 13:15:21 09/07/15 Mon

Did I say that? There was a state titleholder in the 80's who made top 5 at Miss America with the scholastic ambition of finishing cosmotology school. If someone has an educational goal as a means to making an honest living, then I'm all for them using the scholarships in the Miss America program to get there. You missed the point entirely in calling out the person trying to discredit Crystal. While we don't know identity, I'd bet money that there own educational credentials aren't any better than Crystals. If they even have any beyond high school. (NT)No name19:28:08 09/07/15 Mon

I AM the person who posted that and I can honestly say, "yes," that is what you implied through your extremely flawed reasoning. You essentially said that anything less than a PhD from Duke gives a person no right to comment on a girl with "mediocre scholastic ambitions" competing in the program. There is a huge span of difference between "no" scholastic ambition, "mediocre," "adequate," "exceptional" and "outstanding." As a program, we should always strive to have girls who are (a minimum of) adequate to outstanding. Our expectations should be high, not lowered so the "mediocre" girls don't feel left out. If you want to compete in our program, strive harder. There's nothing wrong with sending that message. It's not the program for every girl. (NT)No name20:51:22 09/07/15 Mon
