 We discussed this issue at great length: neither my son A nor I want this to be humiliating. It's about using a sore bottom to recognise a bad decision, not about embarrassing a self-conscious teenager.
On the one hand it feels un-natural to punish through clothing. It's also difficult for the parent to assess if he is punishing too severely, especially if with an implement. On the other, it is not about putting private parts on show.
We have agreed that A faces a table, adjusts his own clothing and then gets into position, so that there is 'nothing to see'
other than the appointed place!
The correction can be given safely, quietly and calmly without humiliation. PJ's thread on 'why bare' is helpful.
