If you look on the calendar Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 will be
GROUNDHOG DAY.

It is a day recognized by custom to see if a Groundhog, also know as a Woodchuck, to see if he can predict if there will be an early spring and no more winter, all depending on if he or she sees their shadow.

If they don't see their shadow cast by the sun on the ground then the groundhog stays outside from hibernating during the winter months.

If the groundhog does see their shadow, and becomes scared, then they will return inside to their burrow they have been sleeping in and return to sleep and there will be SIX MORE WEEKS OF WINTER.

Punxsutawney, PA in the USA is recognized as having the most famous groundhog, named PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL by the townspeople.

His weather forcasting hasn't been too bad over the years to predict an early end to winter and early spring weather or predicting a long winter will continure and more snow!

PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL has his own website on the internet and about his town of Punxsutawney, PA if you care to check it out and learn more.

There are other Groundhogs around the United Staes who challenge PHIL each year, predicting the weather in their area that they live it, and their forecast on Feb. 2 and prediction might be different. So, you'll have to take your pick who is right on Groundhog Day, Feb. 2, 2012.

Do any of our forum members have any groundhogs predicting the weather on Feb. 2 this year? If so, tell us about them.

I'll have to check the news in our area. We usually have two predicting forecast Groundhogs for Feb. 2 and I'll have to see if they are "working" this year on Groundhog Day on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 and let you know what their predictions are.

One groundhog is a Boy.
The other is a Girl.

They live in two different towns, however.

Let the Weather Predicting Begin!

WELL, WE SORT OF NEED WINTER TO START BEFORE IT CAN CONTINUE.

WE HAVE HAD A FEW COLD DAYS BUT IT HAS BEEN MILD. WILL BE ALMOST 70 THIS WEEK.

I SAY THE RODENT IS IRRELEVANT TO US THIS YEAR.

NEWS FLASH!

From: Punxsutawney, PA...Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012

Punxsutawney Phil the Groundhog who lives here, officially saw his shadow here today and reports that SIX MORE WEEKS OF WINTER WILL CONTINUE!

He didn't mention on the CNN NEWS report when and where the snow to continue winter is coming from, etc.

Does anyone else know?

-Mark the Athlete reporting...but not from Punxsutawney,PA

Did the ground hog see his shadow in your part of the country? Here, it was so foggy and overcast, there were no shadows.

Hey Big Brother Tanner,

The Groundhogs we have in our area DID NOT see their shadows, it was an overcast non-sunny sky of a day!

However, I saw on TV on CNN News on the early morning newscast before leaving for school that PHIL the Groundhog that lives in PA was shown before a large crowd of onlookers and he was predicting SIX MORE WEEKS OF WINTER!

Now some consider him the "offical" forcaster of the USA, and others seem to look at their own area for a forecast.

What's predicted for your area? Any Groundhog sightings and forecast for next six weeks?

We have no snow now here, had about 2 inches dropped last weekend Saturday but, since melted with temps. up into the 50s.

What's happening in your area? Did you get snow yet this season? I know Brooks commented you had FREEZING TEMPs. a week ago?

Hey Big Brother,

Saw another Groundhog "report" and prediction in the newspaper for our state, which you might be interested to hearing if we might have an early spring or six weeks more of winter?

There was picture in the newspaper and the caption under it said that OUR STATE OFFFICAL GROUNDHOG DID NOT SEE THEIR SHADOW AND WE WILL BE HAVING AN EARLY SPRING AND NO MORE SIX WEEKS OF WINTER!

I didn't know we had an "offical" state Groundhog.

Guess we do, and I didn't know about it. He's been on the "job predicting" for about 12 yrs. Now, how did I miss out not knowing about our State Groundhog?

Does your state have an "offical Groundhog?"

Thought I would report and let you know about this.

Weather here today is nice, partly sunny and temps. in the mid-40s.

How about in your state?

Take care, and have a good week.

Mark
