I like the picture!

I am jealous of this kid, not because he is getting what looks like the whipping of his life but because he is barefoot at school.

I am glad they don't do it like this at school anymore although I wonder if our paddlings don't hurt just as bad as that stick.

Also, believe it or not, cursive writing is rarely taught in schools anymore.

I never met my Great-grandfather but Grandad would tell stories. I remember him saying something about his Dad and a dead frog in the teacher's desk and the "licking of his life."

I AM NOT SURE HOW BADLY A SWITCH OVER JEANS WOULD HURT.

LET'S ALL SAY WHAT WE THINK HE DID.

I THINK HE WAS HAVING A BAD DAY ALL AROUND. HE WAS LATE TO SCHOOL BECAUSE HE GOT UP LATE AND STILL HAD TO MILK THE COW BEFORE COMING TO SCHOOL AND HIS DAD ALREADY WHIPPED HIM FOR GETTING UP LATE WITH THE STRAP. HE WAS THEN TALKING IN CLASS AND PASSING NOTES AND THEN AT RECESS HE STARTED A FIGHT BECAUSE SOME OTHER KID SAID HE HAD A BETTER PRIZE PIG. THE TEACHER JUST HAD ENOUGH.

I was never taught cursive writing in school but I sort of just picked it up. I still print everything except for signing my name. I can read it and I can write it but I am slow.

Aunt Karen said they found it was not important and most kids pick it up anyway.

I have been spanked with a switch before and I think his jeans need to be off to make it really effective.

I agree with the moderator, I think he got caught skipping school. Not that I have ever done that or anything.

That stick is hitting him right in the sit down spots. I think he is feeling it even if he has on jeans. Notice the teacher is having to hold the kid's hands out of the way. The kid is hurting.

I think he failed his math test. I heard they used to spank kids in school for failing a test.

I was not taught cursive in school. Mom taught me because I was interested.

I too could get into the barefoot thing. Well, I mostly am barefoot at school. I wear flip flops but I take them off when I sit down. I know he is barefoot because his family could not afford shoes and so I bet he wishes he had shoes. Strange, we always want that which we can't have.

I am sure he is in front of the class. Yes, we would think that embarrassing but they were used to it. It probably was not as embarrassing "back in the day."

Brooks, spanking in school is not all that bad. Just like at home, it is over and done with and life moves on. I hate detentions, ISS and writing sentences. I would rather get paddled. There are so many rules about how it is done now that no one would ever be treated like the boy in the picture.

The other posts in this thread talk about ideas of what he did. You should add your thoughts.

Yep, his jeans are dirty. I am sure he only has 1 or 2 pair and laundry was harder to do in those days. Maybe he was in a fight and that is why his jeans are dirty and he is getting spanked.

I think you and I just view going barefoot differently. Part of it is that the Tennessee stereotype is correct and we here are more open and accepting of going barefoot. The rest of it is that it is a thing with me. I truly love the way it feels. I can go in a store (even though they have a sign) in bare feet and nothing is said. Our dress code at school allows flip-flops and I wear them and slip them off when I sit down. Many other students do this too so, technically I am bare foot in school a lot.
