At age about 16 (1960s) I was with a long-term girlfriend who I discovered wore quite long suspender belts, not girdles. I could tell that her belts were tight and asked whether they were uncomfortable. Answer: they have to be tight to keep my stockings up. Further comment: it would be more comfortable if we didn't have to wear them...but we need to wear stockings so we get used to the belts. Extra comment: this one had bones in it when I got it but I took them out because they were too uncomfortable.
Several years later same girl was in a firm girdle. After always denying that any figure control was needed, she now accepted that she "needed" the girdle. same question: isn't it too tight and uncomfortable? Effectively same answer: it's very tight but it wouldn't work if it wasn't tight...and we just get used to it.
