Most of the posts in this forum are BS. These days almost all of the standard recommended immunizations that are to be given IM (intra-muscular) are specified to be given in the deltoid muscle(arm). It is almost always specified in the medicine's instruction paper that is in the packaging. As such, with the way medical offices are, they won't go against the instructions. It's because of the legal liabilities. I know. I've faught this battle numerous times. I've even changed doctors because of this. Don't get me wrong, I will almost never take a shot in my arm. I want to get all my shots in my butt. I've gotten my flu shot for about 40 years in my butt and now it's almost impossible to get it there. My doctor's office will no longer do it because a young nurse wouldn't do it a couple of years ago and even when I offered to sign a waiver, it didn't matter. In my opinion, the drug companies are scared to death about the untrained nurse hitting the sciatic nerve when giving a shot in the butt.
I have found a new source for getting my shots in my butt, but its not that easy to find an experienced nurse who will do it. Tetanus shots are typically not a problem.
On another note, get real with needle gage sizes. If you are a real nurse, you know that the standard needle gage used is 22-25 gage and should be 1 1/2" long for a shot in the butt, most common being 23Ga/1 1/2. None of this 20 gage stuff. BS. And the recommended dose for a Bicillin shot for strep throat is 1.2M units, not 2.4 and is given with a 21Ga/ 1 1/2 needle. Get real.

Where do you practice. Our doctors opt for either 1.2 or 2.5 million units depending on the S/S of the patient. We use 18g needles because it is so thick. We have 20g needles that have yellow hub. Get your facts straight.

Get a tetanus shot immediately and take it in your bottom, where it will hurt least.

I think it's fair to say that every doctor or nurse has their own method of giving injections. Some of the medicine is quite thick and won't even go through a 23 gauge needle. Therefore, a wider needle would be needed. Also, it's a diverse Country and I am sure that every kind of needle is used. They wouldn't even make 18 gauge needles if they weren't meant to be used. Regardless of the guidelines, doctors and nurses will do what they find works for them.

What I hate here is the fabricated stories of doctors allowing layman to administer injections just because they are friends with the patient or claim they are a nurse, etc. Also, the made up stories of people whipping out injections because someone drinks and happens to feel sick. That is obviously not the norm.

I do not believe that most people would simply take an injection just because they feel sick, etc.

.....Peace

I actually work for a doctor who contracts at certain resort hotels where I stay the weekend in a hotel and when guests who have partied to much can call the front desk and then I am sent to their room where I can give them zofram or if needed do IV hydration. Tonight I expect I will be very busy. I

I think you have to understand that 90% of the stories on this forum are written by the same person.

Ward: I didn't want to bring that up but you are absolutely correct. The problem is after one repeats an obvious untruth/fantasy over and over again, unfortunately he probably believes it himself. Very strange.

I agree that a lot of the stories on this site are made up. I'd much prefer that fiction be referred to another site.

I partly agree with Pitb52, in that most vaccinations are given in the arm. But there are exceptions. Some shots are usually given in the glute muscle. I recently had to start a series of B-vitamin shots, and those have all been injected into my butt - I never had another option. I was pretty surprised the first time, but now prefer to get them there.
