I was working in the fast track of the ER when this cute blonde comes in wearing one of those black tank top and black shorts Hooter outfits. I recognized her immediately from eating there yesterday. She told me she had found a stray cat and was feeding it when it bit her on her finger and scratched her thigh. She told me the area was red and puffy. She said it happened 5 days ago and she has not seen the cat since. I told her she might need the rabies vaccine if the cat could not be located. Do they still give those shots in your stomach. No. Typically half of the dose is given near the site and rest goes in your butt. Since it was your finger all of it goes in your butt. She told she weighs 110 pounds. Well at least that is better than the stomach. I told her I need to look at your scratch on your thigh. She took off her shoes. I handed her a gown and she put it on. I looked at her thigh and it looked like she had a slight infection going on. The doctor came and talked with her about the pro and con about the rabies vaccine and she decided to get it after he told her about effects of rabies. He also told her he was going to give her a antibiotic injection and script for the scratches on her leg. After the doctor left she asked me so how many injections will I need. I figured out the rabies vaccine and told her it was 8cc and that I could do two shots with 3cc and one with 2cc and then the antibiotic injection so four. I told her the 3 cc might be a lot at each site since she was small. It will make your bottom really tender. I came back with six syringes. I gave her the vaccine in her left arm. I explained you will need to come back for this several times. I will give you the schedule in your discharge instructions. I told her to lie on her on her stomach. I flipped up her gown exposing her lightly tanned bottom. I told her to point her toes inward. I gave the antibiotic injection first. I grabbed her firm butt cheek and jabbed the first 18g needle deep in her hip and slowly injected. I worked it into her bottom for a few minutes. I gave her the third injection and gave her a few minutes to recover. I am sorry I know these must really hurt. Actually you are doing a really good job. My butt is aching, but I know you are being gentle. I gave her the last two one in each cheek and then I worked them into her muscle. I dressed her thigh and then she put on her shorts. She walked around the room holding her butt. You wouldn't be available to come over this evening to massage my bottom again. It felt better when you were working it into my muscle. I told her I would come over. I told her she handled all the shots really good. For being 22 years old you did really good. I am used to getting penicillin injections for strep throat. Those felt like a golf ball in my butt cheek. I told her I would see her tonight.
