Yes and no ... I was 15 at the time mom had to take me back to my old pediatrician because our family Dr. Was out of town. I was call back and mom was told she had to comeback with me . We bypassed the normal open room were they get the baby's wight and temp and went in to a room .
The nurse ask mom if I had been running a temp ? Mom told her yes 102 103 this morning . The nurse asked if she had take it oral ? Mom said yes . The nurse said she would go get a thermometer and would be back . After a few min. There was a knock on the door in walked the Dr. And the nurse . The Dr. Asked mom how long I had been running a temp. Mom told her last night it was staying between 102 103.5 she had giving me Ibuprofen for the fever . The dr wrote this down she looked at my throat ears nose eyes listen to my heart chest and lungs she said I had a bad sinus and strep infection and Ear infection as well . She looked at my chart asked the nurse what my temp was when I came in ? She said she had not gotting it yet . The Dr. Looked at nurse she said ok then looked at mom said we need to get a rectal temperature to get a good baseline . And she was going to give me 2 shots and a prescription . The nurse told me to lower my jeans and underwear and lay on my stomach this was embarrassing But I did as asked after having the temp taking the dr opened the door and told another nurse to get 2 Tylenol suppositories so I got those 2 shots in the butt no a good day . Then at home mom gave me 4 more suppositories that night an next morning .

Tate I remember not want to go to that Place .I had went there from birth until I was about 12 . Mom had switched use to a family Doctor. She couldn’t get a appointment that day so she got me in to see our old pediatrician. I protest it that I didn’t want to go but she insured me now that I was older that they would let me go back by myself and things would be different than it was when I was smaller but of course nothing is changed the embarrassment of having your mother in the room with you. Having the nurse to take your temperature in your butt at that age is bad enough but this is a standard practice back then at this pediatricians office. Now getting a shot in the butt is not that bad and had that done at the family doctor a couple times A antibiotic and a steroid shot both given in the butt stings a little and a little sore but not bad no this particular day definitely was not expecting to get 2 Tylenol suppositories For the fever talk about the embarrassment it was like this is not happening but of course It did I mean what can you expect at a baby Doctor Who sees patients from birth to 17 when the nurse returned to the room she told me to lower my pants and underwear and kind of lay on my stomach inside and pushed them in .. this is in the late 70s early 80s the doctor wrote to prescriptions one was an antibiotic and the other was suppositories for the fever. And they didn’t seem to bring the fever down so mom saying we have the suppositories now as well use them
