I never had to be held down for those shots but always had to be held across a receptionist's (now P/A) lap for the ones I got at the doctor's surgery. [ Post a Reply to This Message ]

My brother & I grew up on a ranch & doc. made house calls & used the glass syringes & needles Which were sterilized & also used on the animals. (we usually got the newer needles While they were sharp) Penicillin was over used in those days & we got many shots of it. When doc came by he would say "shorts & socks only" & we ran to our room & got ready for the exam. If we needed a shot we would lay on our beds with our shorts down & he would take the syringes out of the sterilizer box which had been on the stove & was steaming hot & put the 2" needles on them & fill them while we watched. He would then slap your butt hard, wipe the area with alcohol & stab the needle in. I was always first as I was the oldest. After a few sessions like this over time we got so we actually were "turned on" by the injections & did not mind them at all.

My Dad was a Doctor, retired now ,growing up if any of my sisters or me would get sick with a cold or sore throat he would give us a shot of penicillin in our butt. My older sisters would have to hold me down while my dad was giving me the shot. As I grew older the shots didn't bother me. I had to hold my younger sisters down when they were getting the shot in their butt
