Hi, I (male) have given quite some injections to both genders. I like giving them to women more, because they usually have nicer buttocks. From the reaction point I have the impression it is not so much a question of gender than of the individual person. I had patients of both genders who showed like no reaction at all and I had patients of both genders who really clenched their butts a lot.

What do you find is the telltale sign to know what type of reaction you're going to get from the needle being inserted? I'm sure it doesn't necessarily mean if you get someone who seems afraid that they're necessarily going to jump out of their skin.

That's very hard to say... Sometimes it's really impossible to anticipate it and I'm very surprised by the reaction. But usually if they are already tensed rom the beginning and a little shy and reluctat to pull down their pants they also jump in the end.

Do you find that it feels different the way the needle goes in when giving shots from men to women? Does the needle go in easier for example when injecting women to men? I've heard that giving obese women that the needle goes in easier than it does to those that are slim. Also, do you find it different pressing in the plunger from a man to an obese woman when giving the same medicine?

Regarding the needle: It goes easier into subcutaneous tissue than it goes into the muscle. But in the end it usually has to go into the muscle. So in an obese butt one has to use a longer needle. And the final centimeter when it goes into the muscle is then just as hard to push in (since it reaches the muscle then). Pressing the plunger is usually the same between obese and non obese. But it gets harder if the patient is really tensed up.
