With modern needles, you Will not ne able to feel the needle at all, regardless of its length and thickness. I experimented with even thicker and longer needles (up to 18G thick and 5 inch long) and barely felt anything (much to my disappointment 🙂). At least this od my experience. The only thing that can make injection hurt is the medicine itself, but that has nothing to do with the needle size. Or it might have, but indirectly, as Paulo explained - the deeper the medicine is applied, the less it should hurt.

Paulo & Coltonzg.....You guys are 100% RIGHT! I got the shot at the very end of the Dr visit. That girl that gave me the shot, I don't think she realized how much I was dreading it. She asked me what my dominant arm is. I hesitated at first before saying my right. She prepared to jab me in my left arm. I got a glimpse of the needle while she swabbed my arm, it was long like I feared. I looked the other way because I didn't want to see her shove all that into me. My heart was racing, but I didn't tense up.
Honest to God, all I felt was her fingers bunching up flesh. I didn't so much as feel the slightest pin prick. I was like "damn! I didn't feel anything!" She didn't put a bandaid on it because I didn't bleed. And so far today I'm not even sore. I'm glad it's over with. I had a bad experience with a penicillin shot in the ass when I was 10 years old. It hurt so bad. That has fueled decades of phobia about shots. The nurse that got me yesterday did a world of good to end that.
