First, an idea of what the museums are like: the Science and Tech museum I think is more aimed at kids, but they have cool displays. The War museum is amazingly designed, and surprisingly with all ages in mind. The Museum of Civilization has a bit of everything. The National Gallery might be boring for teens if they're not interested in art, but the big contemporary section has a lot of weird art that's fun to look at. The Museum of Nature is great if you like looking at life-sized models of animals and dinosaur bones. And there's also a currency museum, but I've personally never been so I don't know what it's like.

The Byward Market, which is very near the Oireachtas venue, is a neighbourhood filled with little boutique stores, great food stalls (you could buy your lunch there instead of at the hotel), and the famous Beaver Tail stand -- a pastry you must try once in your life, at least.

In the Market you can also walk up the hill behind the National Gallery and admire the view of quebec and the back of the parliament buildings from there.

The Parliament tours are definitely worth it, and if the House is sitting when you're there you can watch the politicians bicker in the flesh.

The Haunted Walk is a lot of fun too -- they lead you by candlelight to some spooky Ottawa sights.

There are a few Irish pubs in the Market area (Heart & Crown is the biggest) if you want to continue the Irish theme of the dance weekend.

It's always hard to tell what the whether will be like in November in Ottawa, but if it's decent it is really worth it to drive out to Gatineau park and go for a hike. It's so close and the trails have some really beautiful views.

Also in Quebec are the towns of Wakefield and Chelsea -- each only about a 25 minute drive from downtown Ottawa. They are both charming with some delicious restos and cute shops.

If your teens need a mall fix, there is the Rideau Centre right downtown and an Urban Outfitters across the street. They may also like some of the clothing shops at the north end of Dalhousie St (east end of the market).
