Subject: A lot of times the hotel will provide the meeting space for free
In reply to: Irish dance is BIG business - that's what counts these days 's message, "There's no exemption for non-dancing families that I know of, and I agree completely with you. It's a strong-arm tactic that really only penalizes the families who aren't flush. And the ones who aren't flush - no matter how talented their dancers may be - don't count." on 08:25:05 12/06/11 Tue

if a certain number of rooms are sold. I know that when the Nationals are held in Nashville they make a good amount of money, and this is without the $100 surcharge for those not staying.

I know that 6 years ago when I went to the Nationals I chose to stay outside the venue because I got a cheaper larger room elsewhere (half the price) and it was MUCH quieter than the Gaylord. It was so nice not to be staying at the venue. I loved it! We pretty much had the pool to ourselves every night and we also got breakfast every morning. Oh and this hotel had free parking and kitchenettes...

Families should have options to stay where they please, because in the end there are always going to be more than enough rooms sold at the main hotel.

Before the $100 fee was brought in were the room blocks not sold out fairly consistantly?

I think there is something for locals that they can show ID and have no problems getting in, but I think it's only a small radius.

So basically Irish dancing is becomming more a rich mans sport? Or a poor parents sport.
