Subject: Open Platform Organizations and Options

The long and the short is that Open Platform organizations operate over a wide spectrum. Each Open Platform organization differs slightly. However, in order to be listed on this website as “Open Platform” each organization must be known to offer at least one Open Platform activity per year, or encourage its members to participate in other Open Platform Feiseanna and Events from other organizations. You will find that the majority of organizations listed in this website encourage their members to participate in a wide array of other Irish dance, cultural, language, training activities, etc. believing that multiple organizations compliments the work of each other.

Read each organization's website information carefully. If in doubt, use the organization's “contact info” to pose your query to someone within that organization. My experience is such that Open Platform organizations are very responsive and will quickly reply to your questions. It is each individual's responsibility to know the rules of the organization with which he/she is a member.

Irish Dancing schools and/or teachers will often align themselves or be members of an Irish Dancing Association or Federation. These organizations operate as governing bodies with constitutions and have in many cases, set instructional curriculum and competition (feis) rules. There are many different organizations and they have been listed according to the degree in which they offer and participate or encourage participation in Open Platform Feiseanna and Events. Please note that ALL Open Platform organizations retain the right to refuse entry to any school/dancer who has exhibited poor behaviour at past feiseanna. Remember, “When visiting another organization or school, you are a guest in their space, and your behaviour needs to reflect that.” The info following their name briefly describes their organization, gives a current contact name/web page and attempts to explain their interaction in the Open Platform scene.
