An Comhdhail. ( http://www.irishdancingorg.com/comh/) states its purpose as to foster, encourage and promote the art and practice of Irish Dancing, as well as to protect and defend, and improve the rights and conditions of its members. All teachers and adjudicators are fully qualified as TCRG or ADCRG or with equivalent qualifications from other organizations.
In the majority of the world, An Comhdhail operates as Closed Platform with regards to competition, feis, and events to non-members. An Comhdhail dancers are restricted to dancing ONLY within their own approved Closed Circuit feiseanna.
HOWEVER, An Comhdhail has promoted itself in North America as being Open Platform. The Chairperson, Carol Carberry, has confirmed that next year's feis (2013) in San Francisco will indeed be Open Platform.
