Subject: It can be difficult for CLRG feis organizers to get good feis musicians, they needn't fear reprisals
In reply to: Richard Tew 's message, "Re: Musicians." on 19:47:21 01/12/12 Thu

Adjudicators, Teachers, Dancers and Parents respect a good feis musician. Talent, skill, effort and stamina are requiried. Some big CLRG feisianna have difficulty getting enough good feis musicians. Some of them have a musician playing for 2 or even 4 stages at once and have to arrange their timeline around the musicians. Not all feis musicians can play all the sets; so, they are even more limited in the PC/OC competitions. Good feis musicians can pick and choose. It is more likely that a feis musician would turn down an Open Platform feis because of previous booking, being overwhelmed with requests or just not caring for the location than that they fear being cut off by CLRG. The CLRG mandated fees for adjudicators and feis musicians are basically the same. Although CLRG has liminited the number of adjudicators, they are unable to do so with feis musicians, other factors have limited their number. CLRG does not recognize results from a feis that plans to use recorded music, although they do allow it in case of emergency. However; the US Treasury does impact feis musicians from outside the US by the new rules for professional artists coing to the US to work who must post a significant bond against expected US income taxes. The bond can exceed the expected remuniration. The bond is based on the fee plus plus accomodations plus transportation plus meals that are proided for the artist.
