I, too, own and have driven both cars in STOCK, FACTORY configurations and I'm here to tell you you're dead wrong. The '71 PI would kick a STOCK '78 PI cars ass in any kind of race, , 1/4 mile, 0-60, 0-100, and especially top end, in excess of 140 MPH. Any car can be built to exceed the original stock , factory specs. Build your motor any way you want, it's your car! But, please spare us all with this diatribe about your STOCK 460 PI car being "almost" as fast or faster than the '71 or even a '72 429 CJ PI car, because it just ain't happening, unless you make MANY costly, extensive modifications to you motor and get 500-600 HP out of it, which is quite possible and it sounds as though you are heading in that direction!
