Deadline is Over!! -- Cheryl, 06:27:35 01/10/13 Thu [1]
The deadline has passed, and we have some AMAZING contestants for this year's Miss Royalty International pageant! A private facebook group has been set up for all contestants, reigning royalty, and families. Each contestant will be added as soon as we receive their registration form and full payment. Updates regarding the pageant will be posted there, as well as questions and answers, and feel free to get to know each other so you will be acquainted before the pageant. If you need to be added to that group, let me know. Looking forward to a fun time...see you in March!
Hi everyone!! -- Angelica (excited), 18:48:10 01/06/13 Sun [2]
I'm so excited to have Nayeli a part of this fantastic pageant again this year!! I'm hoping she meets some new friends and has a spectacular time like last year! Can't wait to see everyone!
Eligibility Requirements -- Miss O, 12:26:25 01/04/13 Fri [4]
Hello! I am just looking at your rules on the application. It doesn't state whether or not you are still eligible in the Miss or Mrs. category if youve had a child. Thanks!
Looking forward to seeing everyone at THE Pageant Event on Sunday, April 22, 2012. The final count is now at 181, and we have closed ticket sales. Watch the site and facebook page for information on next year's Event. We are meeting with the hotel tomorrow (Monday) to talk about booking events for next year.
If you are modeling in the fashion show at the Event, please arrive at the Clarion Hotel an hour early (10:30 a.m.) so you can meet with the vendors and find out what outfits you will be modeling. Come with hair and makeup ready; we do not provide hair and makeup assistance.
Make sure you have your Pageant Event tickets with you; the hotel staff will not serve anyone who does not have a ticket at their plate. We cannot distribute additional tickets; we only printed the exact amount as were ordered.
I was discussing this with someone today and wanted to post another bit about scores to help clarify things.
Let's say there are 3 super super strong girls in the same division. And there were, in several divisions of this pageant, many strong girls.
Put yourself in the judges' shoes. They have to pick ONE of the three strong girls. Any one of them would be worthy of the win. But they can't crown all 3, so they have to pick one. Since most judges don't give 10's, what numbers do they have to work with? 9, 8 and 7. So they give their top choice girl a 9, the next an 8 and the next a 7. They give positive comments to all 3 girls because really, they are all really good competitors.
The winner says oh, I got such a high score, I love it, and the comments are so nice. The 8 girl says hmmm, I wonder why they docked me, what did I do wrong? The 7 girl says how can they give me these low scores but still good comments?
You get the picture. All 3 girls are amazingly strong, good competitors. All deserve really good comments and super high scores. But if the judges gave them all 9's, what's the point of judges? And then if they have to break ties and give them all 9's again, we would never get to crowning. They HAVE to score one above another, and one below another, etc.
Put the numbers in perspective and realize how pageant judging really goes. Numbers are purely meant to put contestants in order that day according to a particular judge's preference.
I'm not hearing much from anyone about scores or placements, so that might be good. LOL I'm hearing lots of nice comments from people about how this is the best pageant they've ever done, they can't wait to come back, etc.
Anyway, that's it from me on scores. I'll post on here from time to time about appearance opportunities, maybe put up an appearance pic from time to time, and please feel free to do the same - both local and national titleholders.
HAPPY EASTER to the local and national titleholders for Miss Royalty International!! I hope today is filled with family time and good memories. My family is headed to the Clarion Easter Buffet today, and after that we will spend some quality time together. What is everyone else doing today?
Videos are posted on youtube ... just search for "Miss Royalty International" when you get to youtube.com, and they should all come up. We are working on getting more posted ... they take about an hour each. Happy viewing!
I just wanted to mention something in case anyone is wondering about their scores. The purpose of scores in a pageant is to place the contestants in order ... not to rate their value in the world. Judges will assign whatever numbers are necessary in order to get their desired result. For example, in an age division that has only 2 in it, a judge can give their favorite choice a 9, and their next favorite an 8.
These same 2 people could be in a different pageant with 3 or 4 others .. say a total of 6 contestants in a division. Now these same judges would have to give their favorite choice a 9, their next an 8, next a 7, then 6, then 5, then 4, etc. Does this mean the contestant who got a 4 is a horrible competitor? Not at all. It just means that today, in this pageant, with these competitors, that contestant is not near the top of a particular judge's list so they need to give them a lower score to put them in the order they want today.
Some judges will just tie 3 or 4 contestants with a score like a 6 or 7, and give their very favorites the top scores of 8, 9 or 10. Other judges will rank all the contestants according to their desired outcome, which means the last ones will get lower scores, even though the judge thought they did a fine job.
I would pay more attention to the comments than the actual numbers. You would be surprised how many low scores are actually given in pageants, especially with more contestants in the division, because judges need to do that in order to rank the contestants. The only way to truly tell whether your scores are "good" or not is to know whether that particular judge has a high or low threshold. Some judges will never give a 10 in their lives and they think a 7 is an amazing score, and other judges wouldn't dream of giving below a 7.
I haven't heard much about scores so I'm assuming everyone understands these things, but please let me know if you hae any concerns.
Everyone did a wonderful job on Sunday, and I wish there were more titles to give out. You all got ready so quickly and allowed us to move the show along beautifully. Thank you for being such good friends to each other and for making the experience more positive for each other. It was a pleasure meeting all of you!
THANK YOU!! -- Amanda Matthes, 19:03:08 03/26/12 Mon [2]
Chery: Thank you to you and your family for a fantastic pageant experience!! I enjoyed meeting everyone and for all of the new friendships!!
Congratulations to all of the new Royalty International Queens!!
I just wanted to wish all of the contestants good luck tomorrow. I cannot wait to get there and spend time with all of you. I know you will all have a wonderful time. Have an amazing day!
FYI - Personal interviews will be done panel-style. The judges will all be seated at a table, and contestants will be seated across from them, several feet away. This way, the judges will all see the same thing and form their impressions based on the same criteria. I think having the contestants seated rather than standing will make it a little more comfortable, a little less intimidating, and a little more like a real job interview.
Photo Shoot -- Linda, 07:22:11 03/20/12 Tue [2]
Anyone interested in having hair and makupe done for the photo shoot please e-mail me at birdiejun@msn.com. We have a licensed beautician that will be there doing hair and makeup for $25.00. Let me know asap. Thanks
These are the people that I am aware of who have done at least 3 appearances and who qualify for the onstage recognition and special prize. Please let me know if I have missed anyone:
Kylie McElwee
Marissa Nielsen
Jayden Malicki
Hannah Drummond
Kaitlin Larson
Allison Nelson
Autumn Brown
Amanda Matthes
Renae Arndt
Germaine Seidler
If there is anyone else, let me know now and either post your pictures on facebook (tagging me), or email photos to me at missroyaltyinternational@wi.rr.com. I need to know this week because I'm organizing and packing things for the pageant! ONLY TWO MORE WEEKS! YES!!!
Thanks to everyone for your hard work and effort in representing your titles!
Appearances -- Shellie Matthes, 06:42:44 03/14/12 Wed [2]
Cheryl: You mentioned March 18 as the cutoff date for appearances in order to be counted for the pageant. If we have events still scheduled (we have something on 3/21) do you still want us to tag you in photos? We also have several events after the pageant as well. Let me know if you would still like to receive the photos. Thanks!
Hey everyone! In case you weren't aware, lots of the girls are blinging up their tshirts for the pageant. Please feel free to bling away! Just keep it classy and make sure you can see the logo clearly. Have fun!!!
Several people have asked me for tips regarding securing the 13+, larger crowns. Here they are:
1. The crowns do bend. Feel free to GENTLY bend the crowns, a little at a time, until the front gets a little smaller.
2. The bands bend. Push the back sides of the crown together until the little slider moves and the sides overlap each other. Make it the right size to fit on your head.
3. To secure the bands after you slide them, either crimp them with a pliers or tape the band.
4. When putting the crown on, lift up some of the hair at the crown of your head, place the crown and pin it in place. Use bobby pins to hold the band in place in back, going from the top to the bottom. After you have several bobby pins in place, put more bobby pins across THOSE bobbypins, going sideways, to give even more stability. Then put the hair back down over the band so it and the bobby pins are hidden.
THE CROWNS CAME IN!! They are being boxed, labeled and ready to ship to you on Tuesday (there's no mail on Monday). So watch your mailboxes, crowns should be arriving at your homes by Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, depending on where you live.
When is everyone getting to the hotel for the pageant in March? Saturday afternoon? Saturday evening? Sunday morning? Sunday afternoon?
A final schedule will be posted soon, but basically it will be something like - Junior contestants will have activities from approx. 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. ... Miss 13+ and Mrs. will have activities from approximately 1:00 or 1:30 to 7:30 or 8:00 p.m. (A break will be provided to give you time to get dinner somewhere.)
Stage Diagram -- Cheryl, 09:30:19 01/06/12 Fri [8]
Below is a diagram of how the stage will be set up in March. There will be stairs to the left and right of the stage, behind curtains. Contestants will enter on the left and walk to the center opening of the curtains and pause on the X. When they are introduced by the emcee, they will go to 1X, pivot, 2X, pivot, 3X pivot, and when dismissed by the emcee, go back through the center of the curtains and exit to the right (no pause at the back X since the next contestant may be there already). Let me know if you have any questions!
***REPLY ASAP*** ... Who would be interested in a photo shoot with Snow Dog Photo at some point during the Miss Royalty International pageant time frame? If we get enough interested people, she would be willing to shoot on Saturday during the day and get some people in on Sunday before/during/after the pageant.
Here's the deal:
She will hold a special for 2 looks/$100 but include the CD which is usually an extra $25. On the CD you get 5 fully edited and retouched hi res (pageant ready) images per each look (for a total of 10 hi res images) (plus a file of web formatted images for things like your facebook, etc), plus you will receive all of the hi res images shot with full print release.
She will do headshots and is also looking to try to get some outdoor shots around the hotel as well. I've asked her to do this because her photos that I've seen on facebook are AMAZING ... she has a high quality camera and equipment and she is a trained photographer who attended the Chicago Photography Institute or something like that. Find her on facebook under SnowDog Photo and you will see some of her photos. GREAT headshots and awesome outdoor shots too!
If anyone is interested in getting some new headshots that are great for pageant photogenic contests, program books or whatever else you need them for, this is an amazing price and deal for a high quality photographer. She also said something about adding in a photo or two as you come off stage ... she will be set up in the ballroom on Sunday and you can get your "pageant looks" in your outfits photographed too.
If you are interested, post here PRONTO so we can let her know, so she can plan to come for sure. If there is not enough interest, she may not come.
Someone asked today if they can have their name embroidered on the back of their local banner ... absolutely, feel free to do that if you like.
Also, feel free to embellish your t-shirts, but just make sure the logo is still visible and it's always best to underdo and keep it classy than to overdo and make it junky. The judges will see you in onstage introduction in those tshirts. Have fun!
**PRODUCTION NUMBER FOR 13+** -- Cheryl, 20:53:25 02/20/12 Mon [1]
***FOR ALL CONTESTANTS ages 13+ ... below is a link to a youtube video with instructions for the opening production number for Miss Royalty International. Please review the video and have the girls learn the production number as well as possible before we get to the pageant. We can run through it as a group several times at the pageant, but we'd like you to have as much of it memorized as possible in advance.
Everyone will have a rose for the number, which will be done at the beginning of crowning finals, in your evening gowns. We kept it simple and elegant. Let me know if you have any questions.
Emcee Cards -- Shellie Matthes, 08:34:50 02/17/12 Fri [2]
Cheryl: Do you have emcee cards or a form that you want us to fill out with name pronounciation along with other "fun" information about the contestant for the modeling portion of the pageant?
**UPDATE** ... The crowns were not shipped on the 9th as promised by the Hong Kong manufacturer, who is running behind due to the Asian holiday. He did give me the tracking number showing that they were shipped on the 13th ... so they should arrive here within 7-10 days. I will post on here when they arrive. Labels are all ready to slap on the boxes and get them out to you the day I get them, so thank you for your patience and I'm so sorry for this delay!
Appearances/Special Gifts -- Cheryl, 23:08:42 01/28/12 Sat [5]
You may recall the paperwork states that those who submit photos showing at least 3 appearances made before February 25, 2012 will receive a special gift on stage. Well since we have the unavoidable issue right now with the Asian holiday delaying the crowns, we are extending that deadline to ONE WEEK before the pageant, or March 18, 2012. There are no exceptions to that date ... photos must be submitted by midnight on March 18, 2012 in order to be considered for this prize. Appearances are not required; this is just an extra gift that will be awarded to those who meet the criteria.
Music for modeling. -- Angelica (wondering.), 16:28:00 02/13/12 Mon [4]
Do we get to provide our own music for the voguewear or is it whatever music you guys put on?
***THE Pageant Event is now open for business!! The general public is invited to purchase their tickets online, and to apply to model in the fashion show. As Miss Royalty International contestants, you are all receiving two free Pageant Event tickets as part of your entry, and you are all also guaranteed spots to model in the fashion show if you are interested.
Anyone who would like to model in the fashion show - please go to http://www.thepageantevent.com and click on the link at the top center of the page to apply to be a model. This will give our vendors your size information so they can select appropriate outfit(s) for you to model in the show. If you do not fill out a model application, you will not be in the show. Some people would rather just attend and watch; others would like to participate. The only way we will know what you prefer is by getting an application from you.
Everyone will receive their two free Pageant Event tickets at registration for the Miss Royalty International pageant on March 25, 2012.
Mark your calendars and save the date for THE Pageant Event though ... it's Sunday, April 22, 2012!! ***YOU**WILL**LOVE**IT!!***
The crown manufacturer is BACK from holiday and tells me I can expect to receive my local crown order by FEBRUARY 16!!!
I will post on here IMMEDIATELY when they come in .. and they will be shipped to you on the day I get them. I'm getting packages ready, with labels, ready to just put the crowns in and seal and mail! Banners will also be in the same package for those of you who haven't received them yet. Also, for those of you who haven't received your crowns yet, your t-shirts will either be in the same box, or they have been ordered and are being sent to you directly by the company, also be received around February 15.
Deadlines -- Nayeli (wondering), 19:04:39 02/03/12 Fri [2]
Hi I just found out about this pageant yesterday, and was wondering if she still could register for it or not. I really hope we could be squeezed in! :)
Check your emails for information regarding advance ticket sales, especially Gold tickets. Tickets will be available at the door for General tickets, but the Gold tickets will probably not be available at the door.
Getting excited about the pageant! Can't wait to meet all of you, and thank you again for your hard work and adhering to all of the deadlines!
Someone asked about videos and photos. We have a professional photographer coming who will be taking onstage photos of all contestants during competition and crowning. Everyone will receive a free CD of photos after the pageant (give me a few weeks after the pageant to get them all copied and mailed). We will be taking non-professional video clips of the pageant (not for distribution) for our own purposes to put on the web and use for promotional purposes. We will not be videotaping the whole pageant. If you wish to take photos or video, feel free to do so, but please do not interfere with our video and photographer. They will be seated on a stage platform just behind the judges in the center of the ballroom.
THANK YOU to Shellie Matthes, who informed me that when she called to book her hotel today, she was told they are filling up ... if you need a room, BOOK NOW or they will be sold out. Thanks, Shellie!
Information for ordering your t-shirts -- Cheryl, 21:55:33 01/28/12 Sat [2]
To: Miss Royalty International Contestants
Below are links to the order forms for your customized logo t-shirts to be worn at the Miss Royalty International Pageant on Sunday, March 25, 2012. Please click on the respective link (for Junior contestants [4-12] or Miss contestants [13+ and Mrs.]) and select the appropriate size t-shirt and submit. This will cause an email to be sent to me, and I will then go order and pay for your t-shirt, which will be sent directly to your house. Your t-shirt is included in your entry fee; you will not be paying for the t-shirt.
If you have a child in the 4-12 pageant who wears larger than typical child size clothing, then click on the link for the 13+ contestants and order an Adult Small t-shirt. The t-shirts do run slightly small, so order a little larger to be safe. A couple of you have already ordered; ignore this email if you are one of them - your order will be placed with the group, and you can expect to receive your t-shirt soon.
You may embellish your t-shirts if you want, but keep it simple and classy. Wear your t-shirts to registration along with black pants or shorts, as well as your crown and banner. Immediately after registration, you will be going into the ballroom for a group photo, followed by onstage introduction competition.
A schedule will be finalized and sent to you/posted in the next week or two, so watch for emails, facebook postings and especially the voy messageboard at http://www.voy.com/227067/ for continuing updates, answers to questions, etc.
Please order your t-shirts as soon as possible, to enable your order to be placed to make sure yours arrives to you in time.
The judges will be given a neatly typed version of your online or mailed registration forms. The interview questions may come from these forms (and some may not). At the end of the interview, the judges will ask you if there is anything you would like them to know before completing the interview. This way, you can bring up any subject that you feel the judges should know about you.
Sample Onstage Introduction for 13+ -- Cheryl, 22:19:00 01/04/12 Wed [2]
Shown below is a sample onstage introduction for the 13+ age divisions done by Michelle. Obviously, for the Junior pageant, something more age appropriate would be good. This is simply to show you the type of statements that might be made, as well as the approximate length of the introduction. Let us know if you have any questions!
Question Regarding Appearances -- Cheryl, 13:42:49 01/22/12 Sun [3]
I've had a question regarding appearances .. how do you set up things like parade appearances? Here are some suggestions:
Parades are typically organized through city halls and if they are not, the city hall will definitely have information on who IS responsible for organizing parades in each town. So that's the first step ... call your city hall and ask how to find out who organizes various parades, and how to go about getting in one. Some parades provide convertibles and drivers, and some don't. Call your parade organizers and ask whether they do. If cars and drivers are not provided, then you can call your local car dealers and ask if they have any convertibles available on the day of the parade that you could borrow ... you will need to find someone to drive you in the parade. Car dealers will typically allow you to borrow their convertibles because they put their advertisement on the side or back of the car. They will tell you what time to pick up the car and how to return it after the parade.
You will also need two parade signs, listing your name and title, to attach to the doors on each side of the car. These should be rubber backed MAGNETIC signs or you should attach rubber magnets to the back of the signs to hold them onto the car. Car owners do NOT want metal magnets on their cars as they will scratch the paint. You can get rolls of rubber magnet strips at any craft store ... they are adhesive and just stick to the back of your signs, which can be made from posterboard.
If anyone else has any additional suggestions, please post them here ... thanks!
Casual Wear Modeling -- Carrie, 17:28:25 01/19/12 Thu [2]
For the Vogue Fashion Modeling or Casual Wear Modeling, is there a set routine that we have to do? Or can we make it up? Thanks!
Junior pageant introduction attire -- Laurie Larson (help), 20:39:17 01/15/12 Sun [2]
What is the introduction /Group photo attire? Do we get the t-shirt mailed to us before the pageant? What kind of black bottoms are you looking for? Shoe type?
Please include an example of the intro. speech you are looking for. Thanks
shoes? -- cassie, 20:10:49 01/15/12 Sun [2]
I know the girls are wearing their purple national royalty shirts with black bottoms, but what kind of shoes are you requiring? (type, color)
thanks!
Optional Contests/ side awards -- Danielle, 20:54:59 01/11/12 Wed [2]
Are there any optional contests/ side awards ie. Talent... Best evening gown... Prettiest hair... Community service... Visibility.. Etc?
Local Crowns/Banners -- Cheryl, 09:41:47 01/06/12 Fri [2]
The last batch of local crowns and banners has arrived and is being shipped to contestants today (and some are picking them up).
The next batch has been ordered and is expected to arrive to me in approximately 3 weeks. I will post on here again when they come in.
Pageant -- Shellie Matthes, 09:11:08 01/06/12 Fri [2]
Do the girls generally hand out little gifts to one another? If so, should we purchase enough for all contestants or just our age group? Will you tell us how many we need to plan for? Trying to get as organized as possible so I am not trying to get things done at the last minute.
Stage for modeling -- Shellie Matthes, 08:39:25 01/06/12 Fri [3]
I see someone else asked, but wanted to make sure the stage and modeling format are the same for both fun fashion and gown. Will the judges be sitting at the front/end of the stage? It sounds like maybe it is a "T" shaped stage.
Onstage Introduction -- Cheryl, 14:35:18 01/02/12 Mon [3]
I wanted to give an explanation of the Onstage Introduction category of competition so everyone will be on the same page.
Basically, contestants should start their introductions by stating their name and city title, followed by 2-3 sentences giving memorable information about themselves that they would like the judges to know and remember. A sample introduction is shown below:
"Good afternoon, I am Suzy Smith, Miss Rockford. I attend the University of XYZ, where I am majoring in Psychology, with a minor in Business. You might find me at the Mall of America on weekends, where I am working on my extracurricular degree ... shopping! I'm proud to be a volunteer for the American Heart Association, and I look forward to representing my title throughout the next year. Thank you."
If you keep your introductions to about this length, you should score well. Resist the temptation to go on and on and on, because it will only hurt you. Deliver your introduction with confidence and a smile, and it will be a very easy category to get a top score in!
For the Junior pageant, Roberta can chime in here (she is the director for the Juniors), but I know the 3 year olds do not give an introduction and for the very young, it can be shorter to take their ages into consideration.
Spread the Word!! -- Cheryl, 12:12:24 12/18/11 Sun [1]
THANK YOU, local titleholders, for spreading the word about the pageant! We are getting inquiries from more people every day, and they say they are hearing about the pageant from YOU! Thanks for doing your part in helping the system grow by making appearances and letting others know about our system (and looking so beautiful at the same time)!
We can't wait to meet you all in person in March!!
I spoke to Roberta Anderson-Smith yesterday and she is excited about taking over the Junior pageant as soon as the holidays are over ... she's a florist and will be making beautiful winner's bouquets for both pageants, as well as securing qualified judges for the Junior pageant that are fair, impartial and nice!
Happy Holidays to all of the Miss Royalty International contetants and titleholders! May you be showered with amazing gifts and more importantly, love and family memories!

Contestant Photos -- Cheryl, 08:32:14 11/19/11 Sat [1]
Contestant photos will not be posted on the website until after the deadline, January 25, 2012. We don't want people making decisions whether to enter or not based on who and how many are in their division. Make your decision based on your personal goals and wishes ... do you want a local title to promote an issue or make appearances/do parades, etc.? Do you want to compete in a quality, professional pageant for a national title? Are you looking for an arena to practice for other pageants? Do your personal best, and do not worry about other contestants ... trust me, that alone can create unnecessary stress. Keep your eyes on the prize!
