Unless we make a run in the first quarter! I am only watching the stats, but I can sense the fire, seeing Colgate go from 3-1 down to a 4-3 lead by the end of the quarter. Go 'Gate!

Great to see how these guys came back in the 3rd and 4th. Felt like they were going to make it close. A shame Walsh was so banged up for the end but he gave four great years. Congrats to all of the seniors on a great run.
Having 5,310 people (was that a record?) at a lacrosse game at The Kerr Dome says a lot about where the sport can go--especially with Syracuse, Cornell, and Albany being such good programs and being so close.

Need a sugar daddy (or momma).
Seems like if one offered to fully endow the Men's program (with equal money going to women's sports), Colgate would have to take it. Without it being *fully* endowed (see below), a risk would be run that the overall funding would stay the same and the institution would just take current spending on Men's Lax and put it elsewhere.
Note: After full scholarships, the coaches will argue they need more recruiting money, more travel money, higher salaries, etc. So, back of the envelope:
$181,000 operating
12.6 scholarships * $65k = $819,000
Full compliment of coaches, properly paid: $500,000
(may be a different staff....)
$1,500,000 for Men's lax (a year). x 2 for Title IX: $3M a year.
Most schools use a x20 multiplier for endowment calculation (that is, they draw 5% off): 20 x $3M = $60 Million Dollar Gift.
Would Murray and Vicky even take this gift if offered, or would it be a political nightmare?
I really believe Colgate could have a final four team within five years if properly funded and supported.....

Connor Cannizzaro, from Cazenovia, chose Maryland and then transferred to Denver. Why wouldn't he or others from the area want to play locally? There is an attraction toward storied programs with rich, winning traditions in competitive leagues. Not sure the Patriot League will ever measure up to the ACC, the Big East, the Big Ten or even the Ivy League, but scholarships will only help.
IMO success in many phases of athletics correlates to size. Many of these schools have made the NCAA tournament on a regular basis. Some enrollment statistics (undergraduate):
Maryland - 27,000
Duke - 6600
Syracuse - 14,500
Notre Dame - 8500
Denver - 5500
Johns Hopkins - 6250
Loyola - 4004
UNC - 29,000

Why didn't he choose 'Cuse. There's a storied program. Could he have chosen 'Gate over 'Cuse? Was he recruited heavily by either school? Either way, it's a big loss for local LAX.

Big difference between competing with the Ivy League and competing nationally. Cornell is falling back with the coaching change and Yale is the only other program worth mentioning currently.
Please don't compare this sport to football, who cares if we compete with them in football? Even if they were eligible for NCAA's no schools would compete anyways., but I have learned quickly that football is the end all be all, regardless if it is successful.

Stony Brook was 6-10 last year and plays in America East, nothing impressive about that. How could they not improve? They lost to a 3-11 St. Johns team but beat a 14-4 Marist and #16 Princeton, sheesh. The majority of their opponents have losing records...and some were winless. Murphy has had multiple winning seasons. The consistency is great but growth is challenging when you're already doing well!

Next year is key as all players will be his recruits(not the previous regime).

We've had some good ROTYs at Colgate. We've also proven that kids like Corp, Baum, Walsh and Clarkson can succeed at smaller programs in less-prominent leagues. Their HS coaches probably have nothing but positive things to say about Colgate so hopefully some talented recruits will keep coming our way. Our winning records can only help.
Then again, those coaches probably have positive things to say about Syracuse and Maryland and Notre Dame, too.
