Subject: Small world

I saw a delightful 93 year old patient today in my NC clinic whose physical appearance and mental acuity were that of a much younger man. Somehow it came up that he played hockey in college, and when I asked of course it was at Colgate. He was the goalie on a team that went 14-0 in 1947, and he spoke of knowing "Howie" Starr and Andy Kerr. It turns out he was also a fellow Phi Psi.

Mark Galloway gave me the Phi Psi handshake saying goodbye, and as he left he modestly mentioned that he also played lacrosse. I later discovered he was an All-American in 1947 and 1948, years he was also captain of the team. The most improved lacrosse player award (last given in 2001, now discontinued) was named after him. Mark Galloway was an early inductee into the Colgate Athletic Hall of honor.

Nothing better than our alumni network, and it is amazing how easy it is to bump into other alums. Glad to hear Mark is going strong!

Did you happen to talk about the Class of 1965 Arena and the Steven J. Riggs '65 Rink? If not I am sure Mark would enjoy reading the recent announcement of this new home for ice hockey, lacrosse and soccer from the colgate.edu website. Maybe you can send it to him or ask Murray Decock to do so.

Go 'gate!

Great story. Always proud to hear how our alumni network continues to work, even in the strangest places ;)
