Subject: Hall of Honor - Kelly Robinson '82, Dick Biddle

At the Inn after the game I met Kelly Robinson, class of '82, who was inducted into the Hall of Honor in 2000. He played defensive end and has the Colgate record for career QB sacks at 28.5. He clearly loves 'gate football and related some interesting stories from his playing days. He's now an MD in Oneonta. Wow, is he in good shape and looks like he could take the field today. You would not want to get hit by Kelly. BTW, I was surprised to see that Dick Biddle was not present for the ceremony. Perhaps it doesn't fit with his personality but, I am sure the fans would have liked to recognize his accomplishments.

His wife probably didn't want to go.

You guys should be embarrassed. Dick is seriously ill, and couldn't make the trip to Hamilton. Now what you are talking about before writing something on the site. Shame.

I cannot be embarrassed or ashamed by something I did not "now" about. Is it common knowledge that Dick is ill? I sincerely hope and pray it is something he can recover from, as he is only 67.

Kelly Robinson played during my college days. In my memory he was considered a better defensive player than his namesake Eugene Robinson, who of course went on to play 16 years in the NFL, a longer pro fb career than any Colgate grad (and who I heard providing color commentary for the Carolina Panther game today). I was not aware that Kelly Robinson became an MD. He is an internist and emergency medicine specialist. He is one of several Colgate fb players during my time in Hamilton who went on get professional degrees. Thank God George, Peter, Tony, and the rest instituted recruiting restrictions just after Kelly left, and downgraded the fb program, so that our reputation would no longer be sullied by dumb jocks.

I'm very surprised that after 28 years at Colgate Dick Biddle did not return for his Hall of Honor induction, no matter what his wife thought. Is it possible he left Colgate with some ill will?

Fred Dunlap accepted the award on Dick Biddle's behalf and explained that Dick was unable to attend due to illness. He made a fine speech about Dick's character and achievements followed by a note he read out from Dick. There was no hint of any ill will. To the contrary, everyone was in good spirits and thoroughly enjoyed the personal remarks of all the Hall of Honor award recipients. We have a lot to be proud of.

Go 'gate!

At Biddle's retirement luncheon he was very complimentary of Colgate. IIRC, he called Colgate a great school and thank Colgate for the opportunity he was provided. It was clear he was very sincere. My hope is that a full recovery is in store for him.

C'mon, man. Some of you want to criticize Biddle? For what? Not being as personable maybe.....as you? He was a winner for us. Isn't that what you critics wanted and still want? And leave the guy's wife out of it. Stay classy or become classy.
