This program is in disarray and has been for years. When is the AD going to step up and make the right move? For the sake of the players and the pride of 'Gate, something has to change.

Watch it bub! We were 3-3 in the league last year. That's the only non-losing league record in over a decade, so obviously things are looking up.

Why not ease off the gas pedal? I just attended 2 games and met some parents and some of the team. There is none of this harsh rush to judgement. The parents are happy to be here and the players are dedicated while recognizing their challenges. The team are doing their best, having lost a talented few to graduation who are sorely missed. Coach Foto is working hard.

Go 'gate!

will she be "working hard" in another 10 to 15 years continuing to be rewarded for winning 35% of the field hockey contests...Coach Emmit Davis got the boot with a record that was tangibly better, in a sport that has been a difficult one for The Gate...gimme a break

Agreed if FH has zero scholarships, zero coach-supported admits, and minimized travel and recruiting costs. If FH is using scholarship dollars or coach-supported admits, the accountability must be higher.

Colgate reports spending over $700k on Field Hockey in 2013 (last year for which data are available).

American University 961185
Boston University 1198040
Bucknell University 603447
Colgate University 700127

Georgetown University 331169
Lafayette College 746137
Lehigh University 507083

They have scholarships...so cross off that excuse. May not be a lot, but they have other means to get kids in.

I agree Steve. I have been in touch with the coach and team and they are trying their best, no doubt! Will continue to support them. Won't kick a group when they are down and giving it their all! Go Colgate FH!!!

The success or failure of our field hockey team is a really amusing subject line on a weekend when all of our other teams were pretty successful. I hope the team tries hard & the athletes are enjoying their D1 experience. Now back to football & hockey...

Rush to judgment, Steve? How many decades do you suggest are needed to come to the conclusion that this program has failed. They have scholarships. All that is needed is a coach. Trying hard is not a valid reason to support this program's results and it doesn't rest with the players.

Give um a few more years. If the record doesn't improve, take the money and spend it on other women's programs and scholarships. Go W Rugby.

I'm glad the parents are glad to be here, Steve, and I'm glad the athletes are trying their best. But this isn't good enough. How many more years shoul we give a break to the coach? This is an old story, I just don't understand why nothing is being done to rectify the situation. As Green Coat said, Colgate coaches have been held to a high standard in other sports. What makes womens FH exempt from those standards.

The mediocre results in this sport - year after year - are a blot on 'Gate's reputation for athletic excellence.

My God people, look at our men's hockey program...we can't even get the scholarship $$$ to maximize the allowable 4.5 scholarships/year...I can't imagine DV is particularly happy about the "stretch" he has in being able to fully compete against 59 other DI hockey programs that have better recruiting tools than Colgate...this shouldn't be the British bureaucracy of the 1880s...we should believe in competition and results...there appears to be ZERO improvement in field hockey and frankly if I were running the show and could evade any challenge from Title IX, I'd drop the sport and focus resources on men's hockey....what a novel idea...for Christ's Sake, why are we building a $38 million hockey facility? Are we afraid of being successful in this sport? Will it upset our faculty, many of whom want to mimic Wesleyan (whose endowment is now less than ours and whose undergraduate enrollment is higher) or Ct College or Hamilton? Get a grip and strive for excellence...I think Colgate taught most of us the meaning of success and competition...I don't need a professor from Smith or an english professor from Colgate to tell me about the wonderful synergy involving academics and athletics...I know it from my experience from Colgate and my 40+ years of enjoying my associations with its alumni...
