Subject: Another departed coach from Nicci's staff
Melissa D'amico, WBB Assistant, left a couple of weeks ago to become an Assistant WBB Coach at Yale. She's a 6' 5"two year Notre Dame starter with 7 seasons of overseas Professional WBB under her belt, 'Gate was her first collegiate coaching gig. She was at Gate for two seasons. She'll be replaced by current coach, Jason Paluch's bride, Anna Patritto. Both are in their mid-twenties and met while pusuing graduate degrees at Michigan State.
With Katherine Menendez, who hasn't turned 30, as the third Assistant, Gate WBB is a progressively younger staff.I thought Melissa's youth and lack of coaching experience would keep her at Gate for more than two years. It would seem that continuity in recruiting and coaching is a prerequisite for improving the fortunes of Gate WBB...something Nicci has yet to achieve going into her 5th year.

brilliant move by MD, all about security. gets to head to an ivy league school (sorry 'gate, it's ivy league) probably more $$$$ and a more competitive program.
who wouldn't want to get off the sinking or sunken ship?

Strategy: Melissa's depiction of role at Colgate in Yale Bio -- Strategy for Nicci, 07/ 6/15 10:35:46am Mon

Got to give credit to Melissa for making the most of her two year tenure at Gate....at least her depiction in her bio on the Yale site. With the new Yale WBB Coach coming in from Northwestern in May, Melissa's bio and characterization of her role as Gate's "1st Assistant," role in recruiting, fundraising and the "turnaround," although somewhat fictional is great payback for two years in Hammytown and late nite/early morning team busrides after getting their buts kicked.
Perhaps Nicci can package Melissa's resume for the next twenty-something diamond-in-the rough coach, as part of the compensation packahe.

Mystery. Both men's and women's hoops continue to struggle and I refuse to believe it is the coaching. What do we have to offer recruits....beyond full scholarships... to make us an attractive choice?

I think the girls will likely improve this year. Losing coach Mel is not a big deal other than the timing is disruptive... though I did hear we got a very good '16 recruit to commit the other day. In terms of how we sell our hoops programs after scholarships, all we've got is the hope that our dynamic young coaches will change the face of Gate basketball. Facilities, fan support, history/tradition are all negatives. I'll still buy the vision & the coaches even if some posters here seem to have given up.
