One thing to remember about last year's team is that it was the most experienced team in PL history - a top six consisting of two players in their 5th year of college ball and four players in their 4th year. . This year's version will be one of the least experienced teams - especially if measured in minutes played. Langel is really going to have to earn his paycheck this year.

Bison 137 makes a very good point. We can only hope that this group has a steep learning curve.

A bit misleading Bison137 -- Slices Come Plain Only, 08/ 4/15 9:24:11am Tue
While not as experienced as last year's team, this year's squad will be considerably older. Tillotson is a 5th year senior. Harries is back and is a 23 year old junior. Swopshire and Rivard both played considerable minutes as freshmen at much bigger programs and are now Juniors with Sophomore eligibility. This team will be smaller, but will also be deeper and more athletic than last year. I wouldn't be so quick to sleep on Langel's squad.

Yes, quite the turnaround - but having the most experienced core six in league history (and likely the oldest) was a big factor imo. Time will tell, but I think it will be a struggle for this year's team to be nearly as good as last year's. Age is not the same as experience - and anyway the average age of this year's core group will be younger than that of last year's team. Also I think you may overestimate both the experience of the transfers and also the strength of the teams that they came from.
Those two transfers may turn out to be very good players - but it is far from certain. Swopshire played sparingly (9% of total minutes) for a Bradley team that was significantly worse than the 2013-14 Colgate team (per Pomeroy, Sagarin, etc.). And Rivard played sparingly (8% of possible minutes) for a JMU team that was worse than almost every PL team - and much worse than Colgate. So they did play some minutes at bigger programs - but not better programs.
As for Harries, he has played only a small number of so-so minutes over his first two years - with injury derailing his sophomore year. Maybe he will turn into a strong player this year, but I think it's wait and see at this point - especially if he is expected to carry a lot of the load and not just be a spot-up shooter.
Time will tell. Good luck for the season (except against Bucknell)!

Bison, this is off the subject but you may have heard that Bucknell was named the #4 Party School by some magazine yesterday; maybe US News & World Report. Congrats. (..that distinction used to go to Colgate)

Yes, I saw that. Not sure how you differentiate between #4 or #8 or #15 though.

Re: A bit misleading Bison137 -- The Future, 08/ 4/15 10:27:15pm Tue
Vomit.
On the basketball side, Colgate was in almost every game last year--that's a big change from well, ever. The team was at its best when it was shooting the three--which is a tough thing to keep doing with a lead at the end of the game. Maybe added athleticism will help the team at the end of games but they certainly do lose a lot of gamers.
With no one over 220 on this year's team (and no upperclassmen weighing over 200) you'd have to imagine this is the lightest team in Division 1. I'm a fan of Langel and think he's done all that you could really ask of him at this stage in his Colgate career--hope he's able to keep the program moving in the right direction.
