Subject: PL FB Media Day:Multiple moving parts in predicting PL football 2015

With the arrival of the 2015 FB Media Day, you have to marvel at the complexity of analyzing this fluid situation. In addition to being blindsided by "homerism," ( or as they say in the stock market, "talking up your position" ),
the moving parts in PL FB are tricky in this third year of schollies. Whatever the predictions of league standing at the end of the season, i'm expecting volatility from week-to-week. Fordham's replacement of 18 starters, more schoolies on each team and tougher schedules can create parity in the league, rendering Media Day Predictions relatively meaningless! But, great for conversation, nonetheless. So; let's go at it!

I am dismayed to see that Fordham has replaced its hole at quarterback with a transfer from FAU. With their sophamore RB, they will probably be very good. But I am optimistic about our team this Fall. We should be able to do what we love to do, i.e., run the ball. But Jake will have to complete enough passes to keep the defense honest.
Our defense should be an unaccustomed plus (tho last year they were pretty good).

Fordham QB will be Anderson,a jr,from Marshall. The FIU transfer likely a Punter.

Thought Fordham lost 18 starters? Must have a great returning core. They've done what most PL schools cannot - stay at the top. And we still have 3 more years of Edmonds. Still waiting for Pujols to have a breakout year and was a bit surprised at Gilmore's contract extension @ HC. Gate's first 3 games are tough as UNH and Yale - despite being at home - have had our number of late.

Melville seems like a very lean, lanky QB; can't get all of his early career sacks out of my head, but he's learning. Excited about some promising newcomers like Attwood, Preston Nix, & Carandang. Smart, talented guys with potential and likely could have gone anywhere.

Melville has an excellent group of receivers: including Quazza and Greenawalt among others. Madaluna and Wingenroth can make big pays after a catch. Gate will need significant production in the air for the tough games and QB will need to balance straight drop back passes with roll out. Lots of fire power available to make grabs.

Picks mostly just chalk from last year. FU did lose 18 starters but they are also the only team with 60 schollies and a senior schollie class.

Since Holy Cross' new AD Nate Pine hit the ground 18 mos ago, he has inflated the Crusader faithful's optimism. With all the fanfare surrounding H.C.'s schedule in coming years, it remains to be seen whether the HC brand on the field can deliver. It may turn out that the HC brand is less diminished in the future. But, methinks it will be more of a pr win. After all, losing to Harvard, Yale and BC is better for the brand than losing to Bryant, Sacred Heart and Monmouth. This year will demonstrate if they're capable of making any significant progress from year-to-year, providing some justification for the inflated expectations for the faithful, established simply by "scheduling up."

Scroll down on the right under "Featured" for Melville, Steffen, and Hunt.
Interesting that Steffen talks about freshman pushing for time in the defensive backfield. Part about blocking punts is pretty great.

Melville and Steffen are smart, well-spoken kids. There were 4 or 5 DBs recruited. Which of these could start or make an impact?

It's hard not to like Hunt. He gives the best media interview of any head fb coach since Dunlap IMO.

An atypical Gate team ?

A promising statement for someone not prone to hyperbole.
