Central Conn State, Monmouth, Marist, etc: The "Peer School"/"Identity by Associatin" thing: -- Truth Ferret, 08/13/15 3:04:03pm Thu

There is a significant PR aspect to creating impressions of "association" in our mass culture, despite the inroads of rating services like USNWR, etc.
The link above demonstrates that there's a tendency for schools to be "aspirational" in providing peer schools to the Dept. of Education and in its institutional literature for prospective students, alumni and others.
In its 125th year, 'gate football is arguably our most visible sport for creating these "association" impressions ( to use advertising lingo ) in the public mind.
Outside of the traditional "Ivy Envy" epidemic in the Northeast that affects each institution differently, the reality is that we have little history and little similarity with Central Conn State, Monmouth, Marist, etc.
However, as the shakeout in scheduling proceeds, PL fb schools have few choices from the "Peer School" designation where the recognition is reciprocal. Obviously Colgate can't play Div. III Bowdoin, Washington and Lee, Wesleyan, and even Div I Davidson. Although these schools share a lot with Colgate institutionally, they're available for scheduling. So, we'll have to be patient with how this new environment for PL fb scheduling evolves.
