1) “The crew apparently knew they had a problem as the plane approached the airport. A recording of the airport's air-traffic controllers provided by FlightAware.com, a website that tracks flights, had the controllers assuring the crew that "emergency vehicles are responding.”
2) “The tail was too low. Instead of coming in flat it was coming in at, I would say, maybe a 45-degree angle, with the tail far too low,” she said. “It really went through quite a few acrobatics on the runway.”
3) The fire, which apparently was visible only after impact, appears to have been in the overhead area where all the control functions travel.
An explosive or incendiary device went off and caused loss of vertical attitude control, resulting in 1) & 2) above.
The fire did not penetrate the skin until impact and breakup and therefore seemed a result rather than the cause.
