To drag up all those memories,
And times of past remorse….
May help us while away the time,
But bear a price, of course….
They tend to bring the teardrops-
Again, to sear the eyes-
And melancholy, morbid moods…
Ah, that way madness lies.
To dredge up all your past mistakes
Those harbingers of doom….
Will cause the night to shroud the mind
Drive sunlight from the room.
And like poor Poe, in Morpheus’ grip…
Did utter tortured cries…
Your sanity will also slip-
For that way madness lies.
The past can never be undone…
Words said, we can’t take back..
And skeletons of hopes and dreams
Lie all along our track.
Let past mistakes stay in the past-
My counsel to the wise…
Despair will overcome you fast-
And that way madness lies.
