Subject: Youth steals the scenes in 'Alex'

Author:
josheph
[Edit]

Date Posted: 06:41:24 05/31/07 Thu

There's a cautionary show biz maxim: "Never go on stage with animals or children -- they'll steal the scene every time.
hat's certainly the case with Debbie Allen's newest musical, "Alex in Wonderland," commissioned by the Kennedy Center and running at the Terrace Theater through the weekend.
The title character, Alex, is played by Kyle Jones, a talented, pint-sized charmer. He acts. He belts out songs. He lights up the stage. And when he taps with a "grown-up" he blows her away with relaxed easy grace. Talk about a scene stealer -- the adults don't have a chance when he's around, and much of the success of the show hangs on his vibrant performance.
But there's a bit of mystery about this young man. Most of the children in the large cast of dancers are seasoned performers. Their bios usually indicate their age -- "Arrington is an 8th grade student," "Chelsea is an 11-year old dancer," "Bethany is a proud 17-year old student." Kyle's bio only tells us he "recently relocated to California from Detroit" and he has appeared "locally, nationally and internationally." Could this diminutive performer be older than he looks?

Thank you for a wonderful night!

We were sharing a stein
When he said "Won't you be mine"
Well now I'm no longer free
You guys just le-et me be

I'm not so lonely anymore
So who just evened the score
Oh yea it' time to be me
His little Honey-e bee

He says now Judy
You're such a cutie
It must be love from high above
I just wanna be his little dove

Cause we're a couple All done with trouble

Now I only see
Just him and me
Forever more
So glad I closed that door

Slam Slam Bang Bang Bang
Couldn't hear when the doorbell rangTried so hard to come back to me
But I'm the one I wanted to be
Yes I was free-e-e-e
You're girl no more
Not me-e-e-e-e

How drunk was me?

Yellow Pillow
Yellow Pillow
It's on my bed
Wish I was dead

Oh gee my sleep
Must've been real deep

Gotta get up now
Have to milk that cow

To the barn I go
Have ta go real slow

Gotta yank them knobs

You guys are doing it right. From that last time I heard you, you're band id 100xs better. Good to hear you on Thurssay, it's nice to hear a bad that really jams. For those that love short jams, whatever, it doesn't matter, it's all good, in the end, the band gets what it wants, the following it deserves.

Hey Bob,
I am curious, can you tell me a little bit about your Les Paul? I assume its a Standard but I was wondering some of the particulars. What year it is, do you use the orig. p/u's, what modifications have you made to it, etc?

I see some neat little knobs and such (and a black tuner) on it and I am curious to what they are? If that is your main guitar, what other ones do you own/like to play?

How about that for a cheesy set of questions??

OK… This is one of the goofiest ideas, but it seems like nothin’ but fun (hat’s off to Spuds)
Instead of submitting just one line, submit four or more lines of verse as I’ve done below… Hopefully it’ll have more continuity… If you can improve on the chorus, go right ahead… If it gets finished, I’ll put it to music and perhaps Speargrass will be bold enough to try it on a Thursday…
If you participate, you might consider leaving your full name and contact info either on the board or in a private email to me… You never know…
…Bobby

Sample verse:
Gorillas are eating pumpkin pie
Messed up the galley, that’s no lie
How they got in? anyone’s guess
Some poor sucka’s got to clean up dat mess

Sample chorus:
World’s goin’ crazy
inch at a time
Line’s gettin’ ever more hazy
no reason, no rhyme
an it makes no sense to me…

Has anyone read the recent article that the top 10 money grossing concert bands last year were all from the 60's or 70's?I read a book not too long ago that the dvd companies are now charging new bands for eveything from limos to dining out to hotel rooms. If they only come out with 1 hit they get to live the rock star lifestyle for a very short time.I liked Ozzie Osbournes tune "No More Tears" alot but if you go to a tape and dvd store to purchase one save your money. In my opionion it was the only good song on the dvd and not because Of Ozzie but because of Zakk Wyldes lead guitar playing...BUT there is a discernable difference in some sort of studio "polish" between it and the other tunes.I guarantee that if you play the last tune you,if you listen closely enough, will notice the difference between it and the next to last tune at the very beginning.

This is in responce to Freddie.

It seems you were just prodding Bobby in fun with your comments but, just in case… I don’t think Bobby is laying down at all, he’s only wiser about picking his spots (if filet and lobster were eaten daily…) But when he does get up, he still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end, even more than before if that’s possible.

I think Matt’s guitar playing is PHAT and I think Bobby thinks so too. Bobby is certainly a world class musician yet I’ve spied him encouraging the members of Speargrass to break-out at a show. He respects their playing enough to allow plenty of space to express themselves, and in my opinion that’s the mark of a truly gifted and humble musician.

I recall one in particular self-serving Bobby bash on Mr. Blotto’s messages soon after he left the band, about how he was overplaying all of the time to the detriment of the others. Egomaniac was mentioned. Thinking back I can’t remember Paul B. all of a sudden start stepping out of Bobby’s shadow with guitar virtuosity. I’ve never noticed Paul stepping out at any time other than to cut Mark off mid-solo and it makes me wonder.

I think that most of us aren’t used to seeing Bobby playing with an already capable band. It’s just not necessary for Bobby to carry as much weight with Speargrass as he must have with others in the past.

RJR

Awesome show Thursday night, my man. Speargrass is becoming a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stale atmospher of cover bands and unimaginative original music especially where old friends are concerned. If I had a complaint it would be that you don’t play enough! You seem to be laying out quite a bit during the extended jams. You’re not getting too old on us, are you?
LOL!!!!!!!!!
Myself and a couple of friends are going to take a little ride up to Fontana, Wis tonight. Do you know of any good music places in the area?
More LOL!!!! Looking forward to tonight!!

What ever happened to that expensive axe that I gave you?

To my knowledge you only jammed on it once.(On stage,of course)

Glad to see your site getting such positive respnse.

I still tell people to this day that I have a good friend that is one of the top guitarists in the midwest.

Looking for a guitar player to start new band with singer that can replicate Iommi and Gilmour. Been working in two bands in Florida for past decade, just moved BACK to Chicago. Thanks, Tim Cooley

Bob, Thank you for hitting a few of those requests I've been naggin' ya to play. The After Midnight,Dirty Woman, Franklin's, and the Eyes, all exceptionally well played. I truely believe that that Speargrass show made you feel real good again. I can't remember a time I've seen ya havin' so much fun!(not counting the old days) You ripped up that whole show, every song, played out, without a doubt. The whole band was having fun. I think they were all into whatever you put out there. Because this is the place to paint my graffiti, I think the lead guitar space in Speargrass is an excellent place for Bobby Georges to commit his musical genius to. The music that shook the house is just a pebble in a rock pile, it is the begining of something really, really, big. I have seen many acts that Bob has played with over the past few years and can't remember a more energetic show. The crowd was definately feeding off the music. The Smalls is a change of pace compared to what I'm use to hearing that old LesPaul scream about. Good stuff, but it aint gonna pack the places like back in the day. Congatulations, I hope you passed the audition! Peace & Prosperity, W.B.

Dear Sox Fans,

For those of you who can read, we on the ‘North-side’ wanted to share our concern over recent events at Comis… (sorry), US Cellular Field. Some of you may remember when a kind Cubs fan politely took a cap from a Dodger's player to give to a young boy in a wheelchair, which led to a slight VERBAL misunderstanding between the Dodgers and the family-oriented fans at the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field. You see, on the ‘North-side’ of Chicago, ballpark confrontation invariably ends sans nudity, tattoos, blood, arrests and newspaper headlines …

The sorry set of events at "US Cellular Field" last evening only stands as a contrast between the two groups of fans. In addition to violating their paroles, these ne’re-do-wells have further humiliated the carnies, pipe-fitters locals, wife-beaters, and toothless hags that make up Chicago's more than twenty-some-odd Sox fans. We on the Northside would like to extend our condolences to all Sox fans, in jail and out, for this humiliation. We hope that once we've finished rebuilding Iraq, that US Forces can begin the much more daunting task of restoring law and order to Bridgeport, Canaryville, the Cook County Correctional Center, and other territories where Sox fans suffer the indignities of alcoholism, domestic violence, and sodomy.

Yours truly,

Concerned Cubs Fans of Chicago

Hey Bobby,

Will there be a dress code at Leroy's next week or any other future show? Four of us had are little hearts set on seein' ya @ Senor F'n Frogs Friday, but some brand new-'no white gym shoe' rule was put in effect from the 'powers that be' (what?... God?)after 10PM.
Guess they don't appreciate your type of crowd/friends?

Hope to see ya jammin' at some less predjudice venue next time...

Peace out,
AV Dude

P- Pull safety pin out
A- Aim hose to the base of the fire
S- Squeeze handle (nozzle)
S- Sweep side to side 6" to 8" outside the peremeter of the fire.
Then once the fire is extinguished back away, don't turn your back, so you are in position to do some thing about it if it should re-ignite.
class dismissed

March 28 2003

Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of rock 'n roll pioneer Elvis and the former wife of Michael Jackson says her marriage included sex with the controversial pop star.

Speaking in an interview with the rock magazine Rolling Stone, Presley said that their two-year marriage included sex "for a while. And then it became 'Def Con 2'. It just got really ugly at the end."

The interview marks the first time either of the couple has spoken about the marriage which lasted from 1994 to 1996. Presley told the magazine that she loved Jackson but suspected he was using her for publicity.

She said that Jackson's private persona was very different from the public's image of him, recalling how she told him: "You sit around and you drink and you curse and you're fucking funny, and you have a bad mouth and you don't have that high voice all the time'."

She said the last straw of her marriage came when Jackson gave an interview claiming that she'd told him Elvis had had a nose job, "which is absolute bullshit". She promptly filed for divorce.
