Bobby,
Congratulations on the birth of your new baby, how exciting!! I also wanted to thank you for one of the finest performances I've seen. Your group is truly fantastic. My friends Deb (the indian guy) and Benny absolutely loved the music and of course I loved it too. We have been talking the show up since returning to Champaign so I'm sure the next time we come up we'll have at least double the number of people.
In addition to the great song selection the sound was exceptional. My ears weren't ringing at the end of the night and every instrument was clear and easy to pick out. I haven't heard clear sound like that since your days with your old band.
Once again congrats and we CAN'T WAIT for the next show!!!
Sincerely,
Ben Juday

Bob,
I've re-read what you post about leaving Blotto and all. (I gave ya some advice before and I still think you should try to let this go?) I still don't understand what your beef is??
1. Did you not get paid while you were with Blotto?
2. If you did, was it not enough and how did you attempt to reclaim monies owed while with the band?
3. When you left why didn't you take your equipment, if it was yours?
4. What kinda of legal agrements did you and the band sign when you worked together?
5. How do you determine room capicity at the Cubby Bear? the Vic theatre hold 1300 max. The Cubby bear appears much smaller.
6. How did you arrive at $100,000 dollars? And have you accounted for depreciation of the equipment?
7. When you left the band what kinds of agrements did you sign? Non-compet? Use of Name? Royalties?
8. Who paid for the equipment in question? Was it a band purchase? Or was it all from your sole earnings? (The Dead bought all their equipment through the corporation. No single person owned anything. Although, this back-fired on them with Garcia's guitars.)
9. Was the organization called Mr. Blotto a corporation or just an organization like business?
10. How was your accounting done?

| Subject: Advice #1 |
Author: Kelly C. [Edit]
|
Date Posted: 17:44:09 02/21/02 Thu
Bob,
I'm going against the advive of a well respected business counselor who told me, "People don't want advice, so don't give any." I think that's bullshit. So, here i go.
I'm a taper guy. First show taped while you were in Blotto was in March of 1996 at Durty Neiles. We did it with 2 cheapo radio shack unidirectional mic's and a Marantz 430 stereo cassette deck. We didn't even point the microphones correctly. We were pretty clueless then.
Somewhere down the line we went DAT and got "plugged" in. One night at Otto's Tom Winters had a rather small box of tapes in front of an amp. that was on the floor, not stage. During the middle of a song you bent forward while playing and reached out, grabbed the box of tapes and flung it into the audience. At the same time you yelled, "Don't fucking put anything there!!!" This was during the middle of the 2nd set and that box had sat there all night. I know a little about audio gear and this box of tapes was in no way damaging anything or even had the potential to do any harm, that is until you threw it.
Thankfully it didn't hurt anyone and Tom got it back. We laughed it off and guessed that we better not put anything there anymore. But we always wonder where a good place would have been to put our stuff?
Near the end of you and Blotto tapers were on edge. We never knew what mood you were gonna be in. I saw you yank cables just before you guys would start to play just because we didn't ask you if we could plug in. Then we'd beg you to plug it back in. Yet, when we asked if we could get plugged in you'd yell at us, "You know where it fucking is!! Do it yourself!" And again, only to walk into a show (well before you's start playing) say hi to you, go up on stage, plug in and then you'd come along and unplug it! This didn't happen all the time but it happened quite a bit.
Here's my point. So What!!! The tape deck getting thrown' incident, that I did not witness, is just some of what tapers talk about. So what!!! Learn from it. If it keeps coming up, no pun intended, then it's probably tapers talking about it and not the Bolgers.
Airing your feelings about what happened on the internet may be your first step at letting all of this go? I hope that you can get past this? Think about the 3 years you've let this bother you? You even said that it's hurting your family. Bob, you seem like a rational person and a very intelligent one. Your seeking public approval for you actions by airing this on the internet and at the same time your tearing your family apart. Blotto is part of your past and I hate to see you carrying this stone with you. And frankly, you sound jealous that Blotto continues to draw a crowd and that they are still making music without you. ( I've seen you pop into a Blotto shows. Even at Mayfest you mocked that you'd like to be there soundman.) Your hurt and I can't blame you for that. But don't let it tear you down. You said that you've been in this business for some 37 years. Move forward. Build another band and sound system. People will come. But remember to learn from your mistakes and your failures will lead you to success. Those who don't learn from their past are doomed to repeat it. Break the cycle. Forgive.
God bless you and your family.
KC

I want to thank everyone who came out to my birthday party to celebrate my 30th birthday! I can't even put into words how surprised and thrilled I was, and can only say thank you, thank you, thank you!!
I want even more to thank those who worked hard to give me such a wonderful gift. I can't tell you how special I felt that night, and then I realized it's not me who's special, but everyone who made me feel that way. My Dad actually played for ME :) The list of those who busted their butts putting this together is long, but Liz and Mike... you guys were incredible. Dad was incredible. Everyone was incredible. Being 30(almost) incredibly.......SUCKS!
Here's my definition of the meaning of living (as opposed to just life). I wonder what I'll think when I'm 60.
LIVE: hurt, forgive, talk, listen, fight, swallow pride, accept, laugh, love. Love! You can't get back yesterday, you can't guarantee tomorrow, and you can't turn someone into something they're not. Just love them and have their back or forget it and move on.

Hello.
Someone left a woman's jacket upstairs at Griffin's after the party. Please e-mail me at lizgeorges@ameritech.net if you think this jacket belongs to you.
Thanks to everyone who helped, performed, and/or showed up. We all had a great time, especially Rachael, who was also genuinely surprised.
Again, thanks to all, and let me know if you think I have your jacket.
Liz

Bobby - you should get back into the swing of things. Why waste all that guitar talent, peple want to hear the music. Have you ever thought about doing a college town tour? Carbondale would eat it up, so would Eastern or UofI. We would just like to see you play agaian, I havn't seen you play since your last show a Durty Nellies. Think about it!

Hey all...
It seems that I lied about not 'jamming' for a while...
Friday January 4th (11:45pm)
I'll be jamming with something called...

Featuring Daryl Coutts and Vic Jackson (of the Ronnie Baker Brooks Band), Michael Brown (of Grin, formerly the 'Flap Jacks') and Kevin Burns?
O'Malley's Rock Club
11957 S. Pulaski... Alsip, IL.
(708) 371-0033
This is going to be a whole lot jazzier than what I normally do, so, keep that in mind before you go the distance…

Nathan and I are on our way out to bury Stripey the fish and Snailey the snail. Snailey somehow crawled out of the tank and I found him dead behind the bookshelf, and I don't know what happened to Stripey. We found his skeleton with spots of flesh sucked up against the filter thingy. Poor fishie...

Hi Bobby, This March marks 2 years of our sadness (you know what I mean). Every time I pull an old News Eve show, it's like electricity in the air. We're looking forward to seeing you. I still remember the 'licks' from "Lying on the Track" in your van coming home from the Allman Bros Show -- it doesn't get any better than that! You should check out String Cheese Incident at the Aragon Ballroom on 4/21 -- we'd love to see you there! God Bless You! Eddie & Mary

| Subject: Judas Machabeus was , indeed, a legendary warrior whose army slew thousands of people in the name of "God". Sort of like the "Crusades"... |
Author: Bob H. [Edit]
|
Date Posted: 05:58:51 04/13/05 Wed
Crusades belong to that most viscous class of warfare-those undertaken in the name of faith. Medieval battles fought from the close of the 11th century through the 13th were engaged for a variety of motives, but they were, for the most part, wars over religion. The Catholic Church sought to harness both the knights' energy and martial skills-and found a role for them in the church's structure of society as protectors. Rules were formulated under which a "just war" could be fought and enlisted the knights to fight for them in the Crusades.
