Bobby, can you confirm the erradication of any furthur Sheryl Crow covers with the induction of ACME Muso? Or, if the songs must stay, can you interject a 15 minute jam, making them more palatable? Some of those jams have been nice teases!

I just heard from an old friend (Lenny) that another old friend has succumbed to lung cancer. Dave Stone was a fan and a friend from the beginning of Blotto… I saw him recently… We had a good talk and he seemed well… Our sympathies go out to his family… Rest in peace, brother… We’ll all catch ya on the other side…

I am shocked, sickened and deeply saddened over the events and the aftermath of Thursday night’s tragic fire at The Station in West Warwick, Rhode Island where the death toll currently stands at 96. It comes only days after that deadly stampede on the South side of Chicago. Panic is a killer, people…

Initial reports place the Great White concert attendance at 350. I’ve seen a video and photos of the show and the joint wasn’t all that crowded. I shudder when I think back to the ‘90s when Blotto shows continually packed audiences in like so many sardines in a can. People were jammed so tightly it literally could take 20 minutes to complete a trip to the bathroom. Had a fire similar to the one last night in Rhode Island happened during a ‘90s Blotto show, loss of life would no doubt have been in the hundreds… I gotta admit it, fire wasn’t something we thought to be concerned about back then, but we sure as Hell shoulda been

Experience also leads me to believe that the band may not have been entirely at fault. Certainly their gerbs were the catalyst for the fire and using them showed a complete lack of judgment, but look at how that place went up. That tinderbox was an accident waiting to happen… A cigarette butt or an exploding Par (stage light) would’ve ignited that back wall and with the same catastrophic results (the West Warwick fire marshals really dropped the ball on this one). I also find the ‘permission’ issue interesting, especially given that Great White has a history of requesting authorization (if they never asked, how could they have been turned down from time to time?)… The way I see it, there’s plenty of culpability to go around…

This hits way too close to home… I’ve worked joints like that for decades (I don’t recall ever playing West Warwick, however)… The way I feel right now I don’t ever want to play again… My heart and prayers go out to all of the victims… It very well may be that only by the grace of GOD am I able to sit here and write this…

…Bobby

Phuck Phish, they are as bad as Mr. Blotto. Now go back ten years and they're both good. Go see Bobby and leave the glow sticks for emergency lite and trippy acid parties. I could see them at a Phish show were the average age is 13 but just cause I'm not in the band I don't want to get hit in the eye or anywhere else for that matter because some IDIOT thought it'd be "cool" to whip a glow stick! Please do not throw glow sticks uncontrollably into crowds, show some brains.

Ok so Phish tour starts up in about 2 weeks and two days. So anyway I buy about 200 glow sticks and on each stick I wrote, "Do not throw at the band;. Now if I pay $.87 each for the stick and charge $2 or 3 for $6 That isn't bad, I mean come on the average price in the subliminal commercial phish lot for a glow stick is 2 for $5. A rip off..so much so I find myself buying a large box so I can give them away..a small price to pay when you are a fan..giving back to the other fans, passing along the very thing that drew you to the band...random acts of kindness that in this oh so cruel world, don't come without expectations..except maybe for a few hours in some city, big or small when we all realize that the reason we are there is the music. Each note played with a genuine love for the craft, not for the machine. A love for the fans, not willing to cause an imbalance in the unity that makes a fan a fan. A fragile and somewhat transparent relationship that is created and maintained by nothing more than a feeling, a pulse. The pulse that holds the answer as to why we are here, and what makes us want what tomorrow may bring. So faint is the sound that creates the memories of yesterday..but if you listen, really listen, slowly you will understand that the groove that once was really never went away. The groove refused to be soiled from the oil of ther machine. The groove stayed clean and you all know what I mean.

There was rather lengthy message in this spot in response to an old message regarding tapers complaints (left by pro-tapers) and it also addressed other issues. My thanks to John Larson for posting it, along with replies by Spuds, Marci and Skoorb. While the message was right on point, I can see little reason in dredging up a subject that I have always felt was inconsequential and disingenuous at best. As far as comments regarding Blotto there is no need to rehash what is general knowledge. I am marking the message as unauthorized as my preference is not to deal with another round of ridiculous replies from a few thoughtless individuals… But thanks John… I appreciate it, I surely do…

Bob
JD here. I met you a month or so ago playing at Navy Pier with The Smalls. I have been keeping up with your web pages and I have a question. This enigmatic "south side thing" you’ve been talking about on the schedule page, is there any chance that you are getting together with the remaining members of The Smalls to form a new band? If you are, I think that will be fantastic!
The reasons for my conclusion are simple. First, as I said before, I think it would be an awesome band judging by what I heard at Navy Pier. Second, this upcoming July date will be the third or fourth time you will be playing them. Third, I was surfing The Smalls web pages and found out that they are from Westmont, (on the south side of Chicago).
How’s that for a guess? (I hope, I hope, I hope).
See you on July thirteenth.
JD

She said this is going to be like Woodstock, only without the ‘Acid Rock’. She is taking her camper and plans to camp out and purchaser of ticket is supposedly welcome to join her (or not). If you’re interested, contact me by clicking here.
This sounds to me like a Grateful Dead concert, only without the Dead…
Very, very frightening… send a bolt of lightning…
That is all…

Dad, how awesome was that to have Mike playing drums with you? I am still excited about it!! Did Chumbly record it by any chance? My guess is a big fat ugly NO. Oh well, at least I took photos! I know I was quite the messed up one, but I'm pretty sure I held the camera straight. I think it was Trish's camera that I used. Check with her if you want the pics!!

Love ya,

Bob
This is Joe. I met you yesterday at Navy Pier along with the other Joe. We talked about the pick-ups in your guitar, remember? By the way, you have a wonderful web-site! It’s so user friendly (I develop web-sites for a living so I would know).
It was a great surprise to hear such a wonderful band along with a guitarist of your caliber while strolling along on a Sunday afternoon. Normally one would expect to hear something like that at a concert! We were both SHOCKED to learn from you that it is not really a band! Well, you fooled me and I dare say everyone else in attendance! I think you really have something there. The music selection was outstanding and the way you get the audience to participate is something far too uncommon these days. If it isn’t a band, YOU SHOULD MAKE IT ONE!
I have signed on to your mailing list here (I also signed the book at Navy Pier) and shall eagerly look forward to your next play date. I have quite a few friends and I’ll be dragging them all along to see you!
Take care,
Joseph Lauhousen
P.S. How DO you get all that tone from that guitar???

Bobby,

Congratulations on the birth of your new baby, how exciting!! I also wanted to thank you for one of the finest performances I've seen. Your group is truly fantastic. My friends Deb (the indian guy) and Benny absolutely loved the music and of course I loved it too. We have been talking the show up since returning to Champaign so I'm sure the next time we come up we'll have at least double the number of people.

In addition to the great song selection the sound was exceptional. My ears weren't ringing at the end of the night and every instrument was clear and easy to pick out. I haven't heard clear sound like that since your days with your old band.

Once again congrats and we CAN'T WAIT for the next show!!!

Sincerely,

Ben Juday

Bob,

I've re-read what you post about leaving Blotto and all. (I gave ya some advice before and I still think you should try to let this go?) I still don't understand what your beef is??

1. Did you not get paid while you were with Blotto?

2. If you did, was it not enough and how did you attempt to reclaim monies owed while with the band?

3. When you left why didn't you take your equipment, if it was yours?

4. What kinda of legal agrements did you and the band sign when you worked together?

5. How do you determine room capicity at the Cubby Bear? the Vic theatre hold 1300 max. The Cubby bear appears much smaller.

6. How did you arrive at $100,000 dollars? And have you accounted for depreciation of the equipment?

7. When you left the band what kinds of agrements did you sign? Non-compet? Use of Name? Royalties?

8. Who paid for the equipment in question? Was it a band purchase? Or was it all from your sole earnings? (The Dead bought all their equipment through the corporation. No single person owned anything. Although, this back-fired on them with Garcia's guitars.)

9. Was the organization called Mr. Blotto a corporation or just an organization like business?

10. How was your accounting done?

Bob,

I'm going against the advive of a well respected business counselor who told me, "People don't want advice, so don't give any." I think that's bullshit. So, here i go.

I'm a taper guy. First show taped while you were in Blotto was in March of 1996 at Durty Neiles. We did it with 2 cheapo radio shack unidirectional mic's and a Marantz 430 stereo cassette deck. We didn't even point the microphones correctly. We were pretty clueless then.

Somewhere down the line we went DAT and got "plugged" in. One night at Otto's Tom Winters had a rather small box of tapes in front of an amp. that was on the floor, not stage. During the middle of a song you bent forward while playing and reached out, grabbed the box of tapes and flung it into the audience. At the same time you yelled, "Don't fucking put anything there!!!" This was during the middle of the 2nd set and that box had sat there all night. I know a little about audio gear and this box of tapes was in no way damaging anything or even had the potential to do any harm, that is until you threw it.

Thankfully it didn't hurt anyone and Tom got it back. We laughed it off and guessed that we better not put anything there anymore. But we always wonder where a good place would have been to put our stuff?

Near the end of you and Blotto tapers were on edge. We never knew what mood you were gonna be in. I saw you yank cables just before you guys would start to play just because we didn't ask you if we could plug in. Then we'd beg you to plug it back in. Yet, when we asked if we could get plugged in you'd yell at us, "You know where it fucking is!! Do it yourself!" And again, only to walk into a show (well before you's start playing) say hi to you, go up on stage, plug in and then you'd come along and unplug it! This didn't happen all the time but it happened quite a bit.

Here's my point. So What!!! The tape deck getting thrown' incident, that I did not witness, is just some of what tapers talk about. So what!!! Learn from it. If it keeps coming up, no pun intended, then it's probably tapers talking about it and not the Bolgers.

Airing your feelings about what happened on the internet may be your first step at letting all of this go? I hope that you can get past this? Think about the 3 years you've let this bother you? You even said that it's hurting your family. Bob, you seem like a rational person and a very intelligent one. Your seeking public approval for you actions by airing this on the internet and at the same time your tearing your family apart. Blotto is part of your past and I hate to see you carrying this stone with you. And frankly, you sound jealous that Blotto continues to draw a crowd and that they are still making music without you. ( I've seen you pop into a Blotto shows. Even at Mayfest you mocked that you'd like to be there soundman.) Your hurt and I can't blame you for that. But don't let it tear you down. You said that you've been in this business for some 37 years. Move forward. Build another band and sound system. People will come. But remember to learn from your mistakes and your failures will lead you to success. Those who don't learn from their past are doomed to repeat it. Break the cycle. Forgive.

God bless you and your family.

KC

I want to thank everyone who came out to my birthday party to celebrate my 30th birthday! I can't even put into words how surprised and thrilled I was, and can only say thank you, thank you, thank you!!

I want even more to thank those who worked hard to give me such a wonderful gift. I can't tell you how special I felt that night, and then I realized it's not me who's special, but everyone who made me feel that way. My Dad actually played for ME :) The list of those who busted their butts putting this together is long, but Liz and Mike... you guys were incredible. Dad was incredible. Everyone was incredible. Being 30(almost) incredibly.......SUCKS!

Here's my definition of the meaning of living (as opposed to just life). I wonder what I'll think when I'm 60.

LIVE: hurt, forgive, talk, listen, fight, swallow pride, accept, laugh, love. Love! You can't get back yesterday, you can't guarantee tomorrow, and you can't turn someone into something they're not. Just love them and have their back or forget it and move on.

Thanks to everyone who helped, performed, and/or showed up. We all had a great time, especially Rachael, who was also genuinely surprised.

Again, thanks to all, and let me know if you think I have your jacket.

Bobby - you should get back into the swing of things. Why waste all that guitar talent, peple want to hear the music. Have you ever thought about doing a college town tour? Carbondale would eat it up, so would Eastern or UofI. We would just like to see you play agaian, I havn't seen you play since your last show a Durty Nellies. Think about it!

Hey all...
It seems that I lied about not 'jamming' for a while...
Friday January 4th (11:45pm)
I'll be jamming with something called...

Featuring Daryl Coutts and Vic Jackson (of the Ronnie Baker Brooks Band), Michael Brown (of Grin, formerly the 'Flap Jacks') and Kevin Burns?
O'Malley's Rock Club
11957 S. Pulaski... Alsip, IL.

This is going to be a whole lot jazzier than what I normally do, so, keep that in mind before you go the distance…

Crusades belong to that most viscous class of warfare-those undertaken in the name of faith. Medieval battles fought from the close of the 11th century through the 13th were engaged for a variety of motives, but they were, for the most part, wars over religion. The Catholic Church sought to harness both the knights' energy and martial skills-and found a role for them in the church's structure of society as protectors. Rules were formulated under which a "just war" could be fought and enlisted the knights to fight for them in the Crusades.
