Subject: Speaking of Mary-Louise Kurey, I distinctly remember the year she won Miss Wisconsin. She won no preliminary awards and the song she performed I believe was "Almost Love"? Anyway, it was dreadful. Her first runner-up had been a double preliminary winner, and it seemed obvious that she was going to be the next Miss WI. It truly was one of those WTH moments. Anyway, the judges must have known what they were doing because fast forward to Miss America, Mary-Louise changed her talent to "Il Bacio" and it won her a talent award. She received styling help and interview prep and was definitely a contender for Miss America. But that was the first year that only the top 5 performed their talent, and she didn't make the top 5. It was very disappointing. Also, if Mary Louse Kurey sang "Il Bacio (The Kiss) Waltz" by Luigi Arditi at Miss America---then that is the same opera number that another Miss Wisconsin sang (and won preliminary talent with) 13 years later when Laura Kaeppeler was named Miss America in 2012. She worked at Disney World for 13 years, I'm assuming after she graduated from college. And yes, Laura did sing the same song that Mary-Louise peformed. I believe that Laura wore the same talent gown at Miss WI that Mary-Louise used on the Miss America stage.
