Subject: Candidate from the Eastern Tagudinians Association (ETA) for the Tagudinians International Grand Reunion II in Las Vegas, July-5-7, 2013




Rhea L. Manglapus


Hello there!

It’s a great privilege to be chosen as the candidate of Eastern Tagudinians Association Inc. (ETA). I was born in New Jersey in 1994 to Wilfredo and Mary Jane Lelina Manglapus. From the day I was born, I can say, creative juices were already flowing in my veins. Growing up, I always have a very strong passion for music and arts. It became not only as a hobby but also a great help for others.

At a very young age, I started choreographing dance presentations of my fellow youth in ETA gatherings. My dad usually asks me to do digital layout and designs for souvenir programs, invitations, and had also created the ETA website (www.usa-eta.com). All these among other things that I’ve been doing for the association have encouraged community awareness. This social involvement is reinforced by being a part of our church staff parish team, youth choir, and a volunteer in Vacation Bible School as an art teacher.

While in school, I focus on my academics, balancing it with extracurricular activities. With God’s blessings, I earned the distinctive Bronze and Silver Awards through Girl Scouts. While in high school, I was involved in FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) where I earned gold medals for competing in many state and national events. As a dedicated yearbook member since my freshman year, many hours and long nights were devoted working alongside my fellow staff. I was appointed design editor during my senior year and with team work we came up with our dream yearbook. For all four years of high school, I served in Student Council as homeroom representative and videographer. I graduated as a member of the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society. Currently, I’m majoring in graphic design in New York City. With hard work and family support, I’m in the President’s Honor Roll maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Hopefully, someday, my passion will eventually become a profession and a rewarding career.

I’m a Jersey girl but our parents and grandparents raised us in the Filipino tradition, especially appreciating Ilocano food like dineng-deng and pinakbet. ETA made me appreciate more about Tagudin and its people. Regardless of my final standing in this contest, I would consider it a distinct honor. My thanks to the Tagudinians of Northern California for this chance. My deep appreciation for their collective efforts to organize this grand reunion. I was only 11 years old in 2005 when our ETA hosted the 1st TIGRE but I can never forget the unbridled excitement and joyful noise of the crowd. I hope that we will have an enjoyable and memorable moment reuniting again.

Finally, these gatherings have raised consciousness about the beauty and needs of Tagudin. I hope Tagudinians, especially the younger generation, will find a way to support projects to make it more progressive and also to utilize wisely and preserve the natural resources of this beautiful coastal town of Ilocos Sur.
