You enter the hatching sands of Igen and gape. The white robe of the Candidate you wear is light, but the hot sands burn through your thin sandals. The great golden Queen before you turns her head to watch you mince towards her eggs. A loud hum is heard and suddenly, the eggs start to rock wildly. Will you Impress?

The young greenrider slips in, icy blue eyes widening as he greets the spectacle of Hatching. -- T'yin, 18:30:53 12/20/01 Thu
A small smile appears on the rider's face as he seats himself in the stands. Nine eggs had hatched, and several young dragonets were still on the Grounds with their new life partners. A touching moment, that second where they both realized that no longer would they be alone, in word, thought, or deed. The solitude was temporary for the young hatchlings, lasting mere seconds or a couple minutes until they found their chosen one, but for the human... ah. The loneliness could pervade years and years as they grew, some with worse lives than others, until a select few might struggle onto the Hatching Grounds, and even less than they may meet their soul mate in draconic form. Suddenly remembering his own Impression, a scarce three years ago, T'yin smiles and settles himself to watch the rest of the Hatching, touching his beloved green's mind softly to ensure that she still sleeps.

*A very large egg begins to crack, and Kylith bugles, her whirling eyes focused on the mottled shell.* -- Braeth, 17:04:12 12/20/01 Thu
*The hatchling inside seems determined to make a good entrance, and the egg breaks neatly in two, the halves falling to each side of the healthy bronze dragonet. A proud head is lifted as slowly spinning eyes search the Sands for his lifemate. Flapping his wings to get the most of the fluid off, the bronze moves forward, not nearly as uncertainly as most newly hatched. Spotting a Candidate named Teagan, the hatchling ignores him, before sighting one who he would be with for the rest of his life. Letting out a surprisingly deep bugle, the bronze gallops forward, only showing a trace of the clumsiness inherent to his siblings. Eyes locking on his chosen, the bronze stops right near Sehan, nudging the boy's hand. I am Braeth, S'han. You are mine, and I am yours to feed. The powerful dragonet head-butts S'han, his hunger evident in his impatience.*

She still here? There are alot of them still here. Kadoth remarks eagerly, his head swiveling around as he regards the Sands that had only recently been his own home.

"She's over there, I think." He points to his sister and an unfamiliar young man. "Did we see him at the Barracks? I was too tired to place faces then..."

Might have. Should we go take a look? Kadoth cocks his head, listening for A'rak's response.

"Well, I think we'll wait until she Impresses, Kadoth. I want to watch the rest of these with you, and we'll see her enough. I want to watch her Impress. Jenna already did, look." So saying, he points to the girl and her new lifemate before plunking his tall frame ingloriously down. Kadoth settles with more dignity, reclining close to his companion and watching quietly.

*A fifth egg twitches slowly, drawing attention to its languid movements.* -- Paherth, 23:34:03 12/19/01 Wed
*After inscribing ever-widening circles, it finally flops onto its side. This seems to be what the dragonet inside had waited for, or perhaps the change in position startled it, so that it began thrashing. Vibrating wildly, the egg forms cracks along its bottom, and the first to break through the rigid shell is a long, coiled tail. The color is, once again, green, and Kylith trumpets encouragement to her daughter, her voice brassy and proud. S'sha, hand over mouth, watches with unshed tears as the little dragonet tears her way free of her confinement, wobbling a little before looking around. Creeling, her glimmering eyes red with hunger, she makes her way slowly, carefully, almost regally over to a girl almost alone - Thess. Nudging her chosen's arm with her snout, the green looks up with happy, loving eyes. I am Paherth, Thess. You Impress me. I want food. She croons happily.*

::His leg had given out on him, so now he sat, rather uncomfortably, upon the burning sands. Brushing a sandy hand through his hair he grins at T'yin... who seems to become more popular every minute. He chuckles to himself and shakes his head... enough with laughter, time to get up. With muscles aching all the while he leans forward, placing his weight on his knee and his... stump. Then, pushing with all his might upon the sands with his stick he quickly pulls himself upright as his stick sinks back into the sand. Annoyed, he pulls it out and holds it at an angle so it supports him but does not sink. With his free-hand he wipes a bit of sweat from his forehead and then begins to hobble to the nearest eggs. Gently he talks to them, welcoming them to the world outside of the shell.::

She still hadn't Impressed, and the queen egg hadn't cracked. Was that good or bad? she wondered. Seeing the greenrider land, she waved cheerfully to him, she hoped he would enjoy the Hatching, Kalya knew she was.

The Hatching would continue soon. And would the queen be one of the next to hatch? Which one would be next, for that matter? A green, blue, brown, bronze, or even...the queen egg, the metallic gold shell glittered even more in the Hatching's own special light.

Do you hold my lifemate? she silently wondered to the queen egg. Will you want to help me make a difference, if you come to me? Kalya smiled, she believed that the unborn queen would, if it came to her. If it chose to be the kind who would help her make that difference and change the lives for the people of Pern for the better, that was.

If it even chose her at all...

*After several long moments of stillness, a mottled shell begins to splinter.* -- Wrelth, 15:04:33 12/20/01 Thu
*The egg doesn't rock, but the hardened, brittle shell is shattering quickly. Kylith's humming once more rises to a loud decibel, encouraging her offspring to emerge from the egg. Then, a small talon pushes through the sticky fragments and pulls the rest of the dragonet out. Unlike the two before him, this hatchling is a vibrant, midnight blue, several tones darker than his brothers. His eyes open and reveal faceted gems, whirling red and green. Flapping his wings, the blue creels loudly, muzzle swerving back and forth, trying to find his lifemate among the Candidates. Confidence bolstered as Kylith lets loose a brassy trumpeting, the dragonet stumbles forward uncertainly, weaving among the eggs and passing Sehan, then Aelse. Coming closer to a group of three, his whirling eyes suddenly lock onto one girl - Channa. With a happy cry, the hatchling moves forward quickly, brushing aside Kalya and Wessae to get to his chosen one. Like a few of his siblings before him, he gathers enough speed to head-butt her and knock the girl down, but his eyes lock with hers. I am Wrelth, Channa. You Impress me! I want some food, too. He croons lovingly, nudging her hand with a wet muzzle, his wings half-upraised to help dry, and hunger quickly tinging his jewel-like eyes with red.*

It had happened again, the sharp instant of Impression. Each time it did, the jolt of the impact made her eyes water with a certain tang of sadness and joy. The looks the new dragonets gave their lifemates sends shivers up her spine. When Channa Impressed, and her dragon looked at her....it was like at that instant they knew they would love each other, no matter what. Forever. It was almost scary, she thinks, the way they chose and affirmed so quickly.

And now the number of eggs was dwindling, but there was still an abundance of them to be had. It made her tremble all over again. Her younger brother's friend had found her blue, and Kylith was warbling like the proudest mother ever placed upon the Hatching sands.

Which she is...if I had that clutch, I'd be bugling too. That thought sends her into a subdued bout of giggles again and she smiles tenderly in welcome to the new arrivals that color the sands by the minute as they seek their futures.

A tall boy of 17 turns strides out onto the sands. White robes swirl around his fit form. He slows to a halt and stares around at the crowd, the the clutch, and the canidates...
Hmm...not very many people here...yet.
He slowly inspected everyone, comparing his chances to those of the other hopeful kids, with his dark eyes dancing...
As he looked out onto the crowd he saw a young boy hugging his father and Slyth's coal black eyes misted over slowly drifting into memories...
"Father..." the young Slyth asked.
"Yes.." a kind looking man turned to his son.
"What am I to be when I grow up... I don't want to be a merchant."
"Now,you don't knoww that for sure right now," the father said, "You are too young to understand the beauty of being a merchant!"
"But I KNOW what I wantto be..." the boy persited, "I..," Slyth faltered for he saw that his fathers kind face had turned harsh, "I wnat to be a dragon rider!"
Slyth finish his sentence with his coal black eyes burning into his fathers.
He had been whipped for being so 'insolent' as his father had said. That day onhe never forgot his dream even though he kept it to himself, but he sworeonce he was old enough he would leave and go to fufill it... HE WAS GOING TO IMPRESS A DRAGON!!

Kalya watched as the mottled shells cracked open, one by one, and watched the dragonets emerge, stumbling towards their chosen riders. She bit her lip, but then shook her head at the worry. The dragon knew, and that was that! She watched Maisath's egg crack first, the dragon going directly to one of the female Candidates. Some may have thought the hatchlings were clumsy, or looked...odd, but to her they were all beautiful in their love, so precious and intense that they died when their rider did.

Kalya was slightly surprised when she tasted salt at the corners of her mouth, from her tears. The Hatching was so beautiful, would an egg be for her? Most especially, the queen egg? It hadn't hatched yet, and she hadn't Impressed yet, so...maybe, and that was all there was to it. She would have to wait, and see if any dragon came to her.

Her eyes glanced longingly at the Impressed pairs, and then, for an instant, flicked over to the queen egg, with it's gold-mottled shell. She smiled, seeing that Al-no, A'rak, had Impressed. She waved shyly over to him in congratulations, he had gotten a bronze! Besides, he was...well, she blushed, attractive. Joth had been a great friend, true, but no more than that, and she'd had little of her life to spend on anything but surviving.

A tall, red haired boy of seventeen turns strides out onto the sands. Unaware of the burning sand, only of the clutch of leathery white eggs. He looks around only to find many others just as exited as himself. His hopes were high to impress, but he didn't show any emotions on his face except for the look of deep thought in his eyes. Just as he had been taught for all those years...
"Father??"
"What!!" Sylants father said as he turned around in substance induced rage. "I have told you again and again, not to call me father!!! YOur mother is dead so I HAD to take you in, but you shall never be my son!"
Sylant bent his head but his father was not done. He took a bottle and throw it at the seven turn old boy, "Get out and go to the kitchens where yur useful."
The glass had shattered against the boy's head, and he crumpled to the ground unconsious. It took 1 turn for the boy to fully regain his senses. He never talked unless someone was being abused or picked on, but even then he let his eyes and actions say it all.

::He staggered onto the Sands, wearing a white robe yellow with age. His great-great-grandather had been a Dragonrider, before the old age of Dragons had ended. HIs ancestor had passed his old impression robes down to his son, as his son passed them down, and fianally they had reached him... a mere seven-day ago. He smiled with the memory of when his father gave it to him, he'd called it a worthless heirloom... But Waren had recognized it. So obviously the robe of a Candidate!
Waren leaned heavily to his left side, using a rough pole to support himself. His left leg was strong, muscular and well built, but his right leg ended at his knee. It ached him occasionally, but he had gotten to the point of ignoring it... especially now, as the awe of the Hatching Sands filled his vision. He was naught but a simple farming lad, and just seeing this was as though re-visiting dreams of old. Staggering forward onto the hot sands he was snapped back to reality by the sudden burning feeling entering into his sandals. He cringed slightly but continued to hobble on. Recalling stories his grandfather had told him he attempted to bow to both Golden Queen and Weyrleaders. Then, he allowed his eyes to wander and watched with utmost happiness as others impressed around him. It was because of the robes he had devised a plan and ridden hard upon his runner with the (and he snorted indignantly to himself at this) "special helper" saddle, to come here. He felt it was time a member of his family became a dragonrider. It was in their blood after all. So, he'd come to the Sands, proud and determined, to try and Impress. He knew he wasn't perticularly good-looking, wild brown hair going every which-away no matter what he did, he was missing part of a leg, and was rather short to top it all off. But perhaps it wouldn't matter.
He sighed at the realization he was late, but shook his head. He hadn't worried about much so far, now was not the time to start. So, with a smile on his face and hope in his soul he stands, and he waits.::

She watches, her eyes falling back to her notebook. All this was going to make her a great novel. But...it would be so much better....she bit her lip, eyes averting as she finished writing. This is all so wonderful and all...but still...she can't help but wish that she could get a dragon as well. She glared at her pen. Angele! Stop acting like this! You're only setting yourself up for dissapointment! One, you aren't of age. Sure, you'll be 14 turns in a short period of time, but you aren't fourteen turns yet, now are you? Second, you're not a bloody candidate! And you're not more special than anyone else watching the Hatching. It's a dream. Don't hurt yourself. Angele nodded. "You're right," she smiled to herself. "As usual." Her smile faded, her concentration driving entirely to her work....
She scribbled down an excerpt she could use later on in her story...

Shindra's gaze fell upon that of the Queen's egg. She watched as it rocked back on forth, slowly, but surely.
She wanted to reah out. Reach out and touch it. But she knew she couldn't. Her eyes were glued to it, and as a crack glimmered across it's Golden surface, anxiety clawed at the girl's back. Would she Impress?...

She stopped, eager to watch the next egg hatch.

A dragon drops a tall man off outside, the rider entering the Sands and the brown winging off to sun-bathe. -- R'nos and Leth, 16:17:52 12/15/01 Sat
R'nos grins as he climbs into the Sands, running an approving eye over the clutch and the golden queen. Warm brown eyes amused, he watches the four Candidates below, quickly catching sight of Kalya and waving slightly, unsure if she could see him or not. Snagging a seat, the rider prepares to wait S'sha's arrival, and meet his new Weyrleader... assuming the man comes with the Weyrlady, of course. A brown flitter pops in from between, takes a surprised look at where he is, and vanishes again with a frightened chirrup. R'nos laughs heartily at his fire lizard's antics. Kylith was a broody queen, wasn't she? Yes, she is. "I knew that, Leth," his rider answers in an undertone, stretching his big frame out on the bench and propping his feet up on the rails.

*A second, far larger, egg begins to rock vigorously, as though inspired by its clutchmate's precedence.* -- Kadoth, 22:21:23 12/19/01 Wed
*The mottled shell doesn't appear to crack for a moment, instead throwing up spurts of sand around it as it wriggles. Then, its occupant decides to make its entrance, and the shell neatly cracks in two. Out steps a sturdy bronze, large for his color, and plainly one of the best. Kylith croons oddly to her son, and he replies in a hungry creel, before swiveling his wedge-shaped head to scan the Hatching Grounds. Seeing the green hatchling alone, near a group of people, draws him nearer, almost meandering, though his intermittent cries prove him to be hungry and impatient, as are most dragonets'. Then, his faceted gaze settles on Alarak, and he suddenly shoves forward, past anyone standing between him and the boy. A'rak! I am Kadoth! Feed me now, for you Impress me! His eyes whirl slower and his voice takes on a loving tone as he croons, head-butting A'rak's hand forcefully.*

Jenna watches the eggs hatch, her eyes wide in amazement, though she had already witnessed all this before, she couldn't move, she was in total awe of these beasts once more, but then, as it seemed the last egg hatched for now, she slowly had revived. Levi watched, circling in the air once again, huming louder, as if to match the dragons own tone. Jenna blinked and grinned at the new hatchlings and their lifemates. Levi, seeing her flying and hums were going unoticed by Jenna, landed on her shoulder with evil intentions. While Jenna paid her no heed, Levi flared her wings and hummed as loudly as a firelizard could in Jenna's ear. Jenna winced at this unexpected event and brushed Levi off her should in mock anger, " That hurt!" Levi chirped triumphantly and landed on Jenna's head, wings flared for further balance. Jenna sighed and tilted her head, feeling Levi chirp, surprised and take to the air again. Levi though, soon landed once more on Jenna's shoulder, curling her tail around Jenna's neck. And Jenna returned to watching the unhatched eggs, wishing silently to those she did know, and didn't, the best of luck.

Jenna could not help but feel left out, she had tried, but obivously they were to wrapped up in themselves to notice her, or maybe she didn't try hard enough. She stepped forward again, then on second thought stepped back into her previous spot, keeping her expressions indifferent, not wanting anyone to see her humilation at the moment, and not even Levi could reasure her, despite the burning Sands, she felt cold, or better even she felt numb. Closing her eyes she sighed, before glancing around, forcing a pained smile to her face, hoping for once, she might be noticed.

*The egg is one of the smaller ones, admittedly, and nestled in a warm mound of sand, it seems content to let cracks meander across its surface, tracing intricate designs without revealing the young one within. After a moment, however, Kylith lets loose a brassy bugle, startling her rider, and apparently meant to encourage the dragonet from its dark home. It works, the egg rocking a bit more, before a talon pokes through, wet but definitely green. The small beauty stumbles out of her confinement, eyes whirling rapidly, a dazzling shade of blue and green as she sights her lifemate. She stumbles to the group of Candidates, butting them away to reach Caen. The little green croons softly, nudging her chosen's hand with a wet muzzle. You Impress me, Caen. My name is Maisath, I am here with you, and you are with me. Her mental tone is light, and hunger tinges her faceted eyes red. I am hungry. I want food! Her voice takes on an imperial tone, and she brushes against Caen's hand again, waiting. Kylith lets out another deep blast of sound, approving this match, and her own rider has tears in her eyes at the wonder of the first Impression.*

A wet talon pushes out, making the two halves of the shell fall away on either side of an exceedingly large blue. A slight, small boy slips in. -- Sekar, 23:52:03 12/19/01 Wed
His heart sinks as he realizes the Hatching has already begun. He is late! He stands, unnoticed, in the shadows by the entrance, staring at the hatching clutch. Unbidden, his mind drifts back to the day, not very long ago, that he decided to become a dragonrider....

Silver rain fell from the sky, moving swiftly over the horizon. As Sekar stared up at the odd movement of the storm, he realized it wasn't a storm at all. Thread! But Thread was long gone, something out of myth and legend. How could it possibly be falling here and now, on the eastern edge of Fort Hold? But as the silver strands dropped upon a skybroom tree, and began to consume it, Sekar realized he could not doubt his eyes. Spinning, the boy fled the advancing Fall, panic driving him forward. So intent upon escape, he had not seen the wing of dragons appear from between and flame the Thread from the skies. Had not even realized they were there, until a massive blue shape had dropped down beside him. From his perch on the dragon's neck, the bluerider had called to Sekar, urging him to mount the dragon. Terrified, he'd practically leapt onto the magnificent beast. The dragon had taken off, and in a second, they were between. The dragonrider had set him down on the stone courtyard of Fort Hold itself, then vanished once again to aid his comrades in their battle against Thread.

Sekar smiles, remembering his immediate decision to become a dragonrider and fight Thread, like his unknown benefactor. As soon as he had heard of the clutch on Igen's sands, he had set off on foot for the Weyr, determined to Impress. His smile softens as he remembers the expression on the rider's face as he spoke to the blue dragon. Will I fing a friend like that? he wonders. A lifemate?

He glances again, shyly, at the people and dragon upon the sands. Would they let him try for a dragon? It wasn't like he was going to demand a bronze or brown. In fact, he wanted a blue, like the one that had saved his life. Sekar didn't care for rank or prestige; neither had done him, an abandoned orphan, any good. He frowns, remembering his foster brothers' cruel taunts about how of course he wanted a blue, it was all he was worthy of. Then he stiffens. Color doesn't matter, he reminds himself fiercely. Rank by no means indicated worth, in either dragons or humans.

He throws his shoulders back and lifts his chin, stepping out onto the sands. He approaches the eggs, slowly, then stops a few lengths away, unwilling to disturb either the Impressing hatchlings or the mighty golden queen. His eyes wander over the smallest eggs, remembering that blues are often the smallest dragons. A sudden thought occurs to him, and he bows to queen and Weyrwoman, offering a silent apology for his lateness and intrusion.

*This egg, near the edges of the clutch, seems almost too far for Kylith. She stirs, as if she'd rise to be nearer as cracks etch into the hard shell and movement shakes the object, but she stays put and contents herself to watch, humming louder with each Hatching. It shudders and in that quick movement, the shell seems to shake apart, revealing a tangle of wings, talon, and tail. Not for a moment is the color of the newest hatchling doubted, for he shines with a brilliant, vibrant blue that puts a summer sky to shame. Rising, his slender muzzle tosses, and immediately he sights his chosen. Sand flying as the little blue attempts to get to his target, he rams straight into Kahetis' thigh, knocking the boy down. K'hetis! I am Tejauth! You Impress me! He croons, his glowing eyes whirling lovingly. And I want food, so get up! The dragon settles his wings back, nudging the new rider with his muzzle urgently, hunger growling in his belly.*

!As each egg was deserted by the creature long held within it, she felt instinctively they were not for her. And as each found their life mate, her longing for one of her own increases. She suddenly found herself at an odd peace, knowing simply if one of these eggs did not contain a life mate for her, so be it. She would try again until she found the dragon for her. And yet, she hoped wildly she would not have to try again, at another Hatching.
Suddenly a light touch on her shoulder startles her from her thoughts. Spinning on one heel, she found herself face to face with her twin, whose grin had been wiped off his countenance, to be replaced with worry. She simply nods to acknowledge his presence, and he moves to stand by her side, watching the eggs with a tense wariness. Each time a dragon hatched, they made a beeline for someone else, ignoring all else on the Sands, and Sehan finds himself wishing fervently for one to come straight for him, regardless of color or size. Any dragon would do for him now...As long as he Impressed!

*This mottled shell seems darker, and farther away from the congregrations of Candidates. A loud snap is heard as a green snout is thrust through the thick shell, shattering it. Thrashing, the dragonet breaks her way from her egg, staggering and tripping over herself as she tries to walk forward. Muzzle buried in sand, she lets out a plaintive cry, which is echoed by a tender croon from the Igen queen. The green's hide is several shades darker than her sister, and seems to enhance the nearly-glowing effects of her whirling eyes. Almost entirely red with hunger, she stumbles a few paces forward, her wings half-raised uncertainly. A voice drifts across the sands to her, and she raises a delicate muzzle. Her gaze falls on one who seems, in her faceted regard, perfect in every way. She hurries to her, weaving unsteadily around several eggs, and only a meter from her chosen, trips again and sprawls, wings beating vainly. Akema! Akema! she cries, before righting herself and stumbling forward into her lifemate. My name is Laffranth. You are mine. Her tone seems gentle, though hunger is an obvious factor as she adds, Please, get me food! I'm starving! Shakily, the little green leans against Akema's legs for support, panting at her run across the vibrant sands.*

Her long wait had paid off. She lifted her notebook to her face, so that her poor eyes could see the page better. She wrote down her notes on what she saw, everything. Although she could not see individual faces, she could see the people, and the beautiful dragons as they emmerged from thier eggs. Her grin grew, eyes getting slightly damp. Her eyes wandered over to the other eggs, wondering what could come out of these. She grinned again, tapping her pencil on the notebook, havinmg finished with writing her last note, she waited for more to happen...

Akema pushes away from the wall and moves slowly across the sands, towards her brother. She stops by him, and they both stare as the first two eggs hatch.

As the first two dragons pass them by, a ripple of disappointment causes Akema to wince slightly. Teagan touches her shoulder gently, and she looks up into his amused eyes. "I thought you wanted the queen?"

She shrugs his hand off. "Maybe I've thought about it. Maybe I just want a dragon now, and not a particular color." She peers closely into his face. "How can you be so calm?" she demands.

He shrugs. "If there's a dragon here for me, they'll hatch eventually. If there's not," and a sudden flicker of fear appears in his eyes, before he masks it again, "I won't Impress. It's that simple."

Akema shakes her head, marveling at her brother's patience. "Well, I can barely wait," she says, her impatience obvious.

*As two of the dragon eggs hatch, she hopes quietly that one may choose her but they both pass her by. Her subconscious is slightly dissapointed but she does let it affect her. Her heart gave a slight flutter as she saw the two Candidates that had been chosen. She knew that they were happy. Don't let yourself get down. Her mind tells her and she knows that she must at least listen to herself. There were many other Candidates that had not yet been chosen and the Hatching had only just begun. She waved her congradulations to the two that HAD been chosen and then joined the others and watched the eggs in hopes that one would be hers...*

Akema freezes as she steps into the Hatching Sands. Her eyes are fixed on the eggs sitting on the sand. She barely notices the heat seeping up through the soles of her boots, or her older brother standing behind her. All her attention is on the eggs. Her eyes sweep across the clutch, lingering briefly on each egg, and finally seyttle on the queen egg.

Teagan touches her shoulder, bringing her back to herself. "You want the queen," he says. It is a statement, not a question, but she nods anyway. "What if you don't get it?" he asks quietly.

She looks up at him. Surprise crosses her face, then sudden realization shows in her eyes as it dawns upon her that there are others trying for the queen. She flushes slightly at her presumption, then answers his question. "That depends." At his questioning look, she goes on. "I mean, if I get a green... I may want the queen now, but I know that a dragon, any dragon, will make me happy once I Impress. But if I don't Impress... then I'll be pretty upset." She smiles. "What about you? LKet me guess, you want a bronze."

He shakes his head. "A bronze would be nice, but I just want a dragon. Any dragon." Brown Kestor chirps softly and bobs his head, as if agreeing with Teagan's thoughts.

Akema laughs. "You're less ambitious then me, I suppose. Eh, Wista?" The green cheeps, then takes flight. Fragile wings whirring, she swoops towards the clutch. Akema dashes forward. "Wista, come back!" she snaps. "Don't bother the eggs!" The green squawks rebelliously, but circles back and lands on Akema's head.

Teagan comes up beside her, staring at the eggs. Then he shakes himself, and looks at his younger sister. "Let's see if we can meet some of the other Canidates," he suggests.

She had kept her own company for Turns, and, sunk in the rut of habit, could not pull herself out to join the others in their light hearted conversation. Upon Caen's Impressing of Maisath, she nods her congratulations, while her mind tumbled with a whirlpool of doubts and anxiety. Would she Impress? Could she? Quicker even than the thoughts could enter her head, she crushes them down with an iron fist. Of course she would Impress, she reassured herself. She had come this far, buoyed only by her ambition, and she would not be stopped by fear and doubt. Her eyes flicker of their own accord towards the Queen egg. Ambition alone might not carry one that far. With those thoughts, she shifts her body to get a clear view of the eggs, hoping her face didn't betray any of the conflicting emotions battling within her rapidly churning mind.
