I am a nurse that diverted drugs from the work place in 2001. It is along story but I'll make it as short as possible. I was discovered at work and they reported me to IPN without fireing me. Great people. I had worked there for 5 years and at the time I was charge nurse in a very VIP floor as well as the chemo nurse for the whole hospital in the night shift. Great career and I messed it up. I enrolled in IPN and I returned to work in the same position and I managed to divert again after couple of months. At that time I was tired emotionally and physically and I decided that I can no longer continue with this so I quit everything all togheter. I decided that I will do something else away from bedside. It wasn't easy but I had worked as a BLS and First Aid instructor for about 5 years with the same company and I was layed off after my boss found out that I have couple of clients of my own, which was not against co. policy. I recently worked as a Medical Assistant Instructor and was promoted as a Program Director after 3 mo. As I started my job as a PD, I noticed that the institution was performing some unethical practices such as not providing the students with the material required for them to be able to function at the work place, and to make matters worse, with the material that they were reporting to the accrediting body. And I, as a Program Director had to sign their papers that they are getting all the training required. Bad situation. I approached my boss about it, and to make a long story short, nothing was done about it, despite all the promises that they made. I was not able to sleep good at night, so I resign as a PD and Instructor. It was a good job, but it came with a price that I was not willing to pay.
As far as my drugs situation,I had been clean since July 31 of 2001, never used anything. I had used alcohool for a while, but I am totally clean from that for years. My question is, there is anybody out there that faced the same situation and was able to regain their licence from the BON in Florida? My licence is in emergency suspention/revoked. Is there any hope to get that back? I don't intend to work in a clinical setting ever. But there are so many jobs out there that require a licence and you don't work directly with drugs. Such as case amnager, or health care adm. but they require a current licence. Is there a type of licence with restrictions that can be issued that you don't work in patient care but you can work in administration? I am planning to get my bachelors in healthcare administration on line, but that takes some time. IN the mean time, I want to see if there is any hope of getting my license back. I am at crossroads. I don't have an understanding husband. He reminds me everyday how bad I messed up. Help. Need some direction please.
