Message Board for Nurses in Recovery Web Site
Welcome. This board was created by Karen Tucker to offer a supportive place for Nurses or other Medical Professionals in Recovery and for those seeking relief from addiction and its consequences. Since Karen’s death in 2003, there is a group of us who are interested in keeping Karen’s dream alive, and continue to carry the message. We are very glad that you found us, and we encourage you to share your story, or your questions and comments so that we may get to know you better and in turn share our experience strength and hope with each other. Whether you are currently clean and sober or wish to be, this forum is a great place to start. We would like to ask that you follow a few guidelines of etiquette when you participate on this forum. We encourage you to share what life is like for you clean and sober rather than sharing war stories. A little about what brought you to recovery is welcome! We find we often have similar stories and part of recovery is to find a common ground. While it is understood that there are many ways to recover from addiction, please respect those whose path may have been different from yours. Please remember that some people are triggered by war stories, and drug-a-logs and we ask that you try your best to stay in the solution. We like to focus on recovery rather than addiction. Bashing of any sort will result in being banned from this site. The purpose of this site is for support, not for controversial discussions or debates. If you have a concern that needs immediate feedback please type NEED FEEDBACK or NEED IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK in the subject field. Do not take it personally if you do not get responses to all of your posts, it is the nature of communicating by this medium. Share from your own experience and strength as well as promote hope in others rather than directing others in what they "should" do. Do not make medication suggestions for others. PLEASE remember courtesy when posting. We ask that you refrain from any type of profanity, joking or otherwise. If you have a problem with a state recovery monitoring program or a state board of nursing, please contact that program or board. Do not post your complaint here. Please do not suggest that some do differently than their monitoring program has directed them. Thanks, The NIR Steering Committee ********ATTENTION: This is a public forum. I entered the NCBON alternate chemical dependency program in Sept 2008 and have gotten my licence reinstated with the restrictions in April 2009. I have had numerous (over 15) interviews, even job offers --IF administration approves. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find employers willing to work with the restrictions. I do feel good about me as a person and as a nurse-my resume is excellent.
So my request is to find employers who are known to work with nurses in our situation. Any suggestions for North Carolina, I live in southeastern area but more than willing to travel.

I am a nurse that diverted drugs from the work place in 2001. It is along story but I'll make it as short as possible. I was discovered at work and they reported me to IPN without fireing me. Great people. I had worked there for 5 years and at the time I was charge nurse in a very VIP floor as well as the chemo nurse for the whole hospital in the night shift. Great career and I messed it up. I enrolled in IPN and I returned to work in the same position and I managed to divert again after couple of months. At that time I was tired emotionally and physically and I decided that I can no longer continue with this so I quit everything all togheter. I decided that I will do something else away from bedside. It wasn't easy but I had worked as a BLS and First Aid instructor for about 5 years with the same company and I was layed off after my boss found out that I have couple of clients of my own, which was not against co. policy. I recently worked as a Medical Assistant Instructor and was promoted as a Program Director after 3 mo. As I started my job as a PD, I noticed that the institution was performing some unethical practices such as not providing the students with the material required for them to be able to function at the work place, and to make matters worse, with the material that they were reporting to the accrediting body. And I, as a Program Director had to sign their papers that they are getting all the training required. Bad situation. I approached my boss about it, and to make a long story short, nothing was done about it, despite all the promises that they made. I was not able to sleep good at night, so I resign as a PD and Instructor. It was a good job, but it came with a price that I was not willing to pay.
As far as my drugs situation,I had been clean since July 31 of 2001, never used anything. I had used alcohool for a while, but I am totally clean from that for years. My question is, there is anybody out there that faced the same situation and was able to regain their licence from the BON in Florida? My licence is in emergency suspention/revoked. Is there any hope to get that back? I don't intend to work in a clinical setting ever. But there are so many jobs out there that require a licence and you don't work directly with drugs. Such as case amnager, or health care adm. but they require a current licence. Is there a type of licence with restrictions that can be issued that you don't work in patient care but you can work in administration? I am planning to get my bachelors in healthcare administration on line, but that takes some time. IN the mean time, I want to see if there is any hope of getting my license back. I am at crossroads. I don't have an understanding husband. He reminds me everyday how bad I messed up. Help. Need some direction please.

I need to know if the ALABAMA BON places a time limit on when a nurse can complete inpatient treatment. I self reported to the BON, completed IOP and have been offered a new job. I very much need the income. This process has wiped me out financially. Please advise...
