I had a moment to think about this post. Are you saying that Bill W. was saying abstinence didn't work along with a 12 Step program? It sounds to me like he was saying that if a drug were available for alcoholics like there was for methadone, he would use it. I don't think it was any reflection on saying abstinence doesn't work. It did for me and I am an addict who worked the program. It may not work everyone, but it does for some, with the 12 steps.
