Subject: If ever a boy stood on the moon...

((I decided to bring out these two, as Lumina would be a MUCH better comfort than Trag. And also, they’re newbies of mine that I’ve been mind playing for ages, and wanted to play in actuality for a while... so... yeah... And, if D’minic ever gets out of his current thread, I’d love to post Trag.))

“Hey, Lumen!”

A clear, alto-soprano voice rang out through the Lower Caverns, never before heard in the Weyr. This voice appeared now along with a slender, tanned female in her early twenties, though, with her looks, she could’ve been eighteen. Almond-shaped amber eyes shone with life, but there was a darker side within her eyes, suggesting that this woman could be lively or dead serious, depending on what was called for. Her bushy brown hair was currently in one of its two usual styles; up in a low runnertail, with all but two strangling locks on either side of her face pulled away. For now, the locks were swinging freely at her eyes, but anyone who knew her well could tell when she was concentrating hard, reading, or working, because she’d put the locks behind her ears to keep them out of her way.

Standing next to this woman was a younger boy of sixteen, laughing softly at his foster mother. While the boy was only eight turns away from the girl, she was the only one to control the blonde, and so was his foster mother, though he thought of her more as a sister. His blue-brown eyes had a calm look about him, which displayed alot of his laid-back nature, but it could be seen that he was as personified as his “sister” was. It could also be told instantly from the gentle turn of the tall boy’s head that he was the Lumen that she was calling after. His short blonde hair slightly ruffled where the girl had messed it up before, he grinned at her.

“Yeah, Lumina?” he asked nonchalantly. The girl rolled her eyes at him, but she was smiling, so the gesture lost all reprimanding qualities.

“Lumen, let’s just sit down,” she said, shaking her head. “And we’ll probably have to see someone of higher rank. The searchrider assured me that it was ok to live here without joining the last search, but I’d like to get everything clarified.”

“Whatever,” Lumen replied with a shrug, and started to walk amongst the tables. However, he had barely passed three when Lumina took hold on his arm. “What’s up, sis?” He asked, frowning. He followed Lumina’s gaze to a nearby table.

All the heavens would call their angels 'round...

“That girl looks upset,” Lumina said softly. “And I just saw a boy and a girl leaving her table. Think she got in a fight with her friends?” Lumina’s face clouded slightly; growing up with a limited supply of friends despite her kind nature, she hated to see others left friendless.

“Let’s go see,” Lumen shrugged, taking his friend’s hand and bringing her after him. As they drew nearer, he heard Lumina give a small, “Oh!” “What’s up?” he asked.

“She’s a goldrider,” Lumina said, indicating the girl’s shoulder knots with a jerk of her head. Lumen raised an eyebrow at it.

“Well, then, you get your wish. We’ll talk to a high ranking rider.”

As they approached the table, Lumina did her best to smile sympathetically. “Are you all right?” she asked softly, standing next to the girl. She had yet to know anyone’s name but that of the two Weyrleaders, so, naturally, she had no idea what Talla’s name was. Lumen stood behind her, still holding her hand, and he squeezed it gently in reminder before letting go. Lumina blushed slightly. “Oh, excuse me. My name’s Lumina and this is my friend Lumanalien—”

“Call me Lumen.” He said softly, looking at her with a frown. “And, er... are you ok?” both decided quietly not to sit down unless invited. What if the girl wanted her space? It was only polite to wait.

Stop the tears from troubled skies from falling...
