In reply to: Lumina and Lumanalien (DS) 's message, "If ever a boy stood on the moon..." on 19:54:54 11/29/05 Tue

Hearing someone address her, Talla looks up, a bit startled at the stranger's voice. This pair aren't people she's ever seen before, though since they don't have dragonrider shoulderknots, they may very well be non-dragonriders that she simply hasn't met yet. Talla has enough to deal with, training her faulty memory to store the names, faces, and dragons of her fellow dragonriders; she hasn't put much effort yet into doing the same for those in the Weyr who haven't Impressed, except for the Headwoman and a few of the friendliest Candidates. Before Talla can come up with a reply to the girl's question, or even quite work out who she is and why she's asking, Lumina hurries on with the introductions. Talla can't quite stifle an expression of disbelief at the boy's long name, and if she was in any better of a mood she'd have giggled sympathetically at his request that she use a nickname. Coming from a family that had always used short appelations for their children, the goldrider often finds herself boggling a little at people whose parents followed different naming traditions.

"I... I'm not having the best of evenings," Talla confesses when the boy, too, asks her, because she doubts that she could pull off a successful lie if they've seen much of the last few minutes. She does, however, manage to summon a smile and paste it onto her face. "It's not your problem, though. Here, why don't you sit down? They're not going to finish their food." She gestures at the spots where Tr'ln and True had been sitting. Talla doesn't really want to put in the effort of being friendly right now, but chasing them away with bad manners wouldn't reflect well upon her reputation. And maybe they can take her mind off the Tr'ln problem, even if neither looks old and wise enough to be the counselor she wants right now. "Are you Candidates? Or new here? I didn't see you on the Sands...." Faulty memory aside, Talla's sure she'd be able to feel at least some recognition if these two had been among the Candidates who hadn't Impressed this Hatching. For that matter, if they'd been among that group, she suspected that they'd look less uncertain and much more dejected. Stanza chirps quizzically at the pair,

((BTW, that thought in Talla's last post - "I didn't say I can't tolerate you! I said I didn't yet!" - was supposed to say, "I didn't say I can't tolerate you! I said I didn't know yet!", but I messed up the tags by accident. I only mention this because that one word changes the meaning a bit.))
