 Most young boys need to learn the lesson that they are subject to female authority and need to recognize it early on. Putting the girls in charge, even if they are a bit younger will drive home the point to him that they are to be respected at all times regardless of his impulses. I was subject first to my younger cousin being in charge when Mom and Aunt were away, but it spread to the two neighbor girls who we both played with. The girls were not allowed to directly punish me, but I knew that any transgression on my part would be met by a stern Aunt or Mom. Even the threat of being told on kept this boy in line.
