I refer to the case of Donald Cobble in Ma. and his son Judah. The Supreme Court ruled that there was not enough evidence presented to show that he had abused his child. They said the spanking would have to "rise to the level of severity that would result in the actual infliction of impermissible injuries" in order to be considered abuse.
I hope this helps in clarifying the situation for you. I would never advise someone to abuse their child.
