It was after a couple of months of dressing up that my mother sat me down and had 'the talk'. I guess mom and stepfather had asked my sister and stepsisters about me dressing up and they thought it was cool other than the fact I didn't have to deal with a period. So the next time my mother started (the other girls had pretty much the same cycles as her), I got to learn all about it and my mom gave me thick pads and tampons both to try, asking me to let her know which one I preferred. She recommended tampons from a hygiene perspective, but she left the choice to each girl. Needless to say, I preferred the tampon over the really bulky pad she had given me.
