It's more than a rumor based on what I've heard (someone turning Albany in). Someone from the league allegedly (wink wink) reported the Barea thing, and did it in a very timely manner. The NCAA doesn't report these things, but I've heard it was a league team.

You wouldn't be implying that there's something wrong if a team reports another team in its league for wrongdoing, would you? Following the argument you've been putting forth about schools having to do what's best for themselves, I think you'd have to agree that a coach who reports another team for violating the rules is doing what's best for his program and, for that matter, for the league as a whole. It's certainly not in the best interest of a school or a league to have another school gaining an unfair advantage by breaking (Barea) or bending (walkons) the rules by which everyone is supposed to play, is it?

#1 - NU isn't bending any rules with regards to walk ons. The rules are the rules and Northeastern, Duke, Arizona, Indiana, Michigan and Michigan State (among others) are all following the rules for walk ons given the 5/8 structure.

#2 - There's always been a "gentleman's agreement" regarding these things in terms of recruiting, not just in the AE, but in the NCAA as a whole. Is the gentleman's agreement correct, I don't know.

For example, NU knew about the Yinka Dare recruiting issue at GWU as it was happening, but didn't do anything about it because of this "unwritten rule" that said unless you had witnessed the violation and it was a CLEAR violation (which the Barea thing obviously isn't), you kept your mouth shut.

If you can clearly show me the rule J.J. Barea broke while he competed in the Puerto Rican League (emphasis on while he competed in the Puerto Rican League), I'll buy you a drink. This is an ex post facto application of a rule that didn't exist last year.

Now you sound like NU Grad - what transpired in Puerto Rico was totally OK so the NCAA sat Barea for 3 games??????

Read last week's Boston Herald, I think it was Thursday's paper, it explains it VERY clearly.
