The question is, can the league continue the
back-to-back-to-back format for the womens'
tournament if another game is added for the 8/9
teams? As it is, the 3 days in a row setup is
artificial and not always conducive to the best
team winning.

By the way, why are my posts showing twice when I
hit Send only once?

I hate the play-in game because it reinforces mediocrity. That is, every coach knows they will make the tourney, so why try and improve as a team......it's a safety net that just isn't needed.

Second, as previously mentioned.....there is no way a women's team (or any team) should have to play 4 straight days as the #8 or #9 team would to win the tourney.

The only good thing I could see coming out of this is that maybe they will let the highest remaining seed host the championship like the men. That way we can send 25-5 teams rather than 16-14 teams to the NCAA Tourney (sorry.....had to get that dig in). Also, you would think that America East would rather draw 4,000 people (estimated for Orono)rather than 900 (Hartford) like this past weekend.

Sounds like sour grapes for mainejeff:) Thought Maine should have received an at-large bid. Hope to see you guys play Siena's women in the second round of the NIT.

In terms of discussing the AE Tourney format -- Why not reward the #1 seed with a first round bye and/or automatic jump to the semifinals of the tourney? I think the MAAC men had this format this season. An 8 or 9 seed should be given the chance to make the NCAAs regardless. That is what March Madness is all about -- it is a whole new season.

I just don't think it is right to leave someone at home. Conferences are families correct??? You don't exclude your own kin. I realize this isn't the ideal format, but is a necessary avenue until you add or drop another school. Bottom line.

I think the problem of playing four games to win the tournament is fine for the 8th and 9th seed because very rarely will either get by the 2nd game - nothing is impossible but alot is improbable.
