Wolfinger is a transfer from St Johns. SV also has a transfer from Northern Illinois and another potential scholarship player named Dednnison who was a juco player who fell off the radar. They are very strong and are playing another great upcoming division 3 program from Massachusetts- Lasell College. They boast a lot of very athletic and talented kids led by a scholarship type guard in Greg Walker from Florida. He is a 6'2 jr guard with an NBA jump shot. Lasell coach Chris Harvey is an up and coming coach in New England who has taken a program that began 5 years ago all the way to the NCAA d3 tournament for the second year in a row. Coack Marks at SV is also an up and coming coach in the area who has great d1 connections from his assistant days at Northern Illinios and also is very active on the road. It is high time we look at the brand of basketball that is being played at the D3 level in New England. Williams College is currently 3 in the country and has several scholarship players who decided to forgo scholarships for academics. Amherst is also a perfect example of this. Mike Crotty a jr guard from Belmont Mass who plays for Williams is about as pure a pg as there is in New England. He spurned schoalrsgip offers at the d2 level as did Steve Zieja at Amherst.

If my memory serves me correctly, I think Ryan Marks worked with/for Larry Greer's brother Andy when he was at Northern Illinois. (Ryan also dated a friend of mine, but that's another story). My timing may be off by a year or two, but I'm pretty sure they have a tie back there.

Williams is/has been a D-3 power for a long time. In the 1980s and early 1990s Colby had an excellent team and had a great 3 point shooter (his name escapes me) who, I think due to Karl Fogel's ties with Colby and the Celtics got to go to their Free Agent camp at one point.

If you go back to the mid 1980s, Clark was a power in D-3 hoops under Wally Halas. They went to 4 or 5 D-3 Final Fours and lost a couple of championship games.

D-3 hoops in New England will always be strong with the NESCAC schools.

Amen!! You're exactly right - great Hoop in New England DIII , DII and solid DI over the past 2 or 3 decades.

Don't know about Clark now.

Wally Halas is a friend of the family, so that's how I knew they were very good back then. I don't follow D-3 hoops at Clark any more.

Wasn't meant as an attack on Clark's ability today, but I don't think they've been to the Final Four at the D-3 level since the mid 1980s.

Paul Phillips took Clark to the Elite 8 each of the last two years and lost.

While Southern is always good basketball...we must look at other things...like academics. Southern, as a regular opponent of UA in our DIII and DII days. They alwasy had a ton of DI transfers, which is the reason why DOC SAUERS scheduled them. They were usually big and athletic. Problem was, 90% of the team had problems at their prior colleges. Not to say Coach Marks is recruiting bad people, but its just that the history of SVM is not so hot. I had two close friends from h.s. in brooklyn play for them, and while they were great teammates, they also never went to class. That being said, on basketball talent alone...SVM is a great team to watch.
