Subject: "Were Old Testaments Saints" Secure in The Lord"

“The old testament Saints were saved and secure in the Lord and did not worry about loosing their Salvation. When you read in Genesis where Abraham failed the Lord so many times during his lifetime and then, read over in the book of Hebrews chapter 11, that he was one of the elder’s who obtained a good report and anyone when reading here in Hebrews know that Abraham was certainly a saved man and yet he failed God, but his sins and failures aren’t mention because Christ’s death also paid for his sins the same as He did for ours. In Romans 4: 2-4, for if Abraham were justified by works he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

Samuel told Saul he had done foolishly by not keeping the commandment of the Lord, 1 Samuel 13:13, For now the Lord would have established your Kingdom over Israel forever. Why would Saul become so anger because Samuel told him that God was not going to give him the Kingdom? Saul tried to kill David because he knew that David was going to sit on the Throne in the Kingdom. We can see why Saul was so anger at David because he would not sit on the Kingdom in the future Kingdom to Israel that was promised to them and Saul knew that. Also Christ would come down through the seed of David. See Jeremiah chapter 30 in Prophecy of the Kingdom to Israel and the coming Saviour down in verse 9 But they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their King, whom I will raise up unto them.

Some Christians say Saul was lost because in 1 Samuel 16:14, for the Lord departed from Saul. But we can see where Saul was a saved man in 1 Samuel 10, where Saul was anointed Commander (King) over Israel, and down in verse 9, where Saul was saved as it was when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, that God gave Saul another heart. In 1 Samuel 12:12 Israel wanted a King to rule over them because they had feared the Ammonites, but God had wanted to be their King. 1 Samuel 12:13, now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! And behold, the Lord hath set a king over you.

The same verse here for Saul is the same verse for Samson, in Judges 16:20 but he (Samson) did not know the Lord had departed from him. In Hebrews 11:32 Samson is named here among the faithful alone with Gideon and Barak, Jephthah and David and Samuel and the Prophets. God departed from both these men Saul and Samson. I believe these two men disobeyed God and He could not use these men like He wanted to. But as we can see here they weren’t lost because they had disobeyed God.

We all have heard of Solomon at least all Christians even those who don’t read the OT all know how he had 700 wives and 300 concubines; in 1 Kings 11: 3-4 and his wives turned his heart. When Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods. 1 Kings 11:5-8, for Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.
Now you wouldn’t say Solomon was lost? 1 Kings 11:11, The Lord said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statures, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the Kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant. God in 1 kings 11:31 says to Jeroboam, take thee ten pieces; for thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, Behold, I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to thee; as in verse 32, But he shall have one tribe for my servant David’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel. We know why God did this because Solomon did what he did, and in verse 40 Solomon sought there to kill Jeroboam. Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt he in Egypt until the death of Solomon.

Think of all the others who failed the Lord, like Moses who disobeyed God and did not get to go into the promise land. After Moses had brought the children of Israel across the wilderness, it is very sad but God doesn’t let anyone get away with sin. He doesn’t let anyone today get away with sin we all know this in our heart if we are believers we know we do not get away sin in our life. Think of Jacob he cheated his brother out of the blessing when in Genesis 27:19 Jacob said to his father, I am Esau your firstborn; I have done just as you told me; please arise, sit and eat of my game, that your soul may bless me. All of Jacob’s troubles were brought upon him because of Jacob’s weakness. Jacob is mention in Hebrews 11:21.

Everyone has heard about Jonah, and in Jonah verse 2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me. Now Jonah did not like the people of Nineveh in verse 3 Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord and he found a ship going to Tarshish. Now we all know the story where when in verse 12 Jonah told the men in the ship to throw him into the sea; then the sea will become calm for you. Now the Lord had sent out a great wind on the sea. When they threw Jonah into the sea, the sea ceased from raging. God had prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah and Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and nights, and when Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the fish’s belly in chapter 2 of Jonah, the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land. Now in chapter 3, the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying ‘Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you. So again we can see the OT saints did not worry about loosing their salvation but they knew if they didn’t obey God, He would deal with them. Any one can see here that Salvation is the same for the Old Testaments Saints as for us. God has a His way to get His people to do exactly what He wants them to do. As of today God has a fish for us when we stray too far from Him. But Salvation is the same a gift from God He sacrificed His only Son.
