Hello Angie, I think that is a good question. How children react after a spanking is quite an individual characteristic.

Both my grandson and granddaughter are quite good and bounce back quickly after a spanking, although my granddaughter is quite a quiet girl at the best of times. My son was also fine, but both of my daughters were occasional sulkers after a spanking.

Like you I didn't want to take too strict an approach and jump straight to second spanking. If the pouting didn't cross the boundary to disrespectful behaviour then I would give them a bit of time. If it went beyond quietness or the stand offishness went too far then it was second spanking territory.

I suppose my advice would be to keep boundaries and give your younger two a little time to get back to being themselves. Do you let them stay in their rooms after a spanking? Perhaps letting them stay out of the way for a little while would help. Try to keep an eye on it and police it lightly but firmly.
